Having looked at all the recent thief debates, I decided to give Safana a try. Unfortunately she is insisting that we go to this damn cave at the lighthouse, which is guarded by sirenes.

I have never bothered doing this bit of the game before, due to an extreme allergy to sirenes.

Has anyone got any tips on fighting them? I have done away with 2 individually, using up an awful lot of antidotes because of their poison arrows.
I have now come across a small group of them outside the cave.

My method is to send in Minsc by himself, shoot arrows frantically then he gets dire charmed, so I can just wait it out. This works with just 1 sirene, but with a group, the others fire poison arrows while he is dire charmed, so he dies quickly. They are too closely grouped to reveal one at a time.

My whole party is level 2, so no access to summoning spells as yet. Any ideas?

I think level 2 is too low for fighting sirenes.
AND if you plan taking safana, ive heard its better to do the cave thing BEFORE taking her, cause if you go there with her she will complain for the rest of the game. Its just what ive heard.

To fight sirenes, try disrupting their charms either with arrows or magic missiles (they can be casted quickly), and use summoned monsters when you get them.

I also remember that sending only 1 strong character works, cause if they charm him/her the sirenes wont attack.

Luck, ill try to remember what else did i use to do !!

Ertai, thanks for the advice. My party consisted of:

Shanna (Bard, lvl 3)
Minsc (Ranger, lvl 1)
Branwen (Cleric, lvl 3)
Dynaheir (Invoker, lvl 1)
Safana (Thief, lvl 2)
Kivan (Ranger, lvl 2)

I managed it after a few reloads by getting one of the group to chase after Minsc, and keeping the rest of the party well out of the way (the other side of the map!).

Then of course I got into the cave, and Minsc was squashed flat in one blow! Got the treasure using stealth & potions of invisibility, but will make a return visit when I am a higher level to wreak my revenge!!! BWAAHAHAHAHA!

All my characters levelled as a result, and I'm really pleased with myself for managing it at a low level!

It wasn't easy, and the one thing I hate about BGI is the way monsters respawn every time you reload - there is no such thing as clearing a map. That makes it a lot harder than BGII IMHO (can you imagine the druid grove with all the trolls respawning every time you reload?).

But it does make the game more of a challenge, and it's an effective way of making sure that reloading isn't overused. Also it makes sure that you can't just level up then reload if you get a low HP roll if you're in the middle of nowhere - you either have to take the HP you're given, or wait until you get back to a safe area to level up. Of course it also means that there are unlimited exp points on offer!

Now I am confused ! Isn't Safana the girlfriend of Coran that you can only pick up in BG, in chapter 5 ? How come that you have her in your party that early on ? And if she is not that one, I have never met her. And I have been through the game - with German thoroughness I might add - three times !

Goto Nashakel, at at least finish the Capitain Brage quest, wich will give you a two handed berserker sword, (Equip the sword to an npc who can use it) and send him to attack the shrines, they will charm him but the beserker will attack anyone while beserked (the Siren Ai will still belive he's charmed) so just want until that beserker is done killing.

Or summon Skeletons by the truck load and have them charge the sirens, the sirens are praticly defenceless agains skelletons.

Ramon, I found Safana near the lighthouse, half way down the right hand side of the map. There are a couple of thieves you can pick up in Chapter 5, including Skie and Alora. But yes, I think Safana and Coran had a bit of a thing going! Unfortunately I don't intend to have them both in my party together - 2 thieves is overkill IMHO!

Strahd, I may give that one a try next time!

well, I would say that Coran is WAY better then Sefana. With dex 20 and 3 stars in Bow, he is the best ranged fighter in the game, save for maybe your char if you put 4 stars into bow. When I was fighting sirens, I just armed all my guys with bows/crossbows/slings and the sirenes were dieing without firing a single arrow (I now have lots of arrows of biting) But when you get near the cave, I used Web to stop them and then approached for the kill.
