I have a probably very silly question that certainly identifies me as being very new at all this. Do your character stats ever increase? (i.e. STR, DEX, ect.) I know they can temporarily increase with potions and majical items, but do they ever increase permenatly with level gains?

Level gains will not increase your stats...only give you proficiencies and abilities. That is one flaw of D&D...There are sometimes items or potions that can permenately raise a stat to be found. I hope you find them!

Nope but certain magical items raise them when you equip them.

In BG1, there are tomes that increase a single stat by one point, so if you import a BG1 character, you can have increased stats. (or you can cheat and import the Tomes using CLUAConsole...

That's what I thaught. I shall search for these items. I grew up playing Wizardy and in that game your stats increase with level gains, sometimes go down as well though. But with multiple reloads! I never lost a single stat!

Here's some good news. Pool of Radiance and Neverwinter Nights are based on 3rd Edition D&D. This means that, every few levels, you can increase a chosen stat by 1 point. In BG2 itself, there are points where abilities can decrease or increase, but I won't spoil them
