Greetings lads and mates!

The name's Durwyn Hammerhead, me be a Dwarf of honor, glory, magic and adventure! I've graced the lands of Icewind Dale, and I've a feeling the South calls me... I must make haste and ways to Baldurs Gate... But before I go I need some information from ye, the adventurers who've walked the lands of South from here and forth. Me be needin' to know if Bauldurs Gate Shadows of Amn, ToB use the same resolution as IWD HoW 800x600 me belives it is... Also is it any similar to the adventures I've may've had in the North? Perhaps are the graphics any better than in the Icewinds of Dale? And what would I be needin' to play BG Shadows of Amn and BG ToB, do I need BG 1 or BG Tales of the Sword Coast? Or is it all 1? hehe, me be having much questions here. But I must attend some tasks left to me by the local Mage of the name Fanur Kahlan. He be needin' a few spells... nasty old fella', made me dig deep into the Vale of Shadows for his pesky Arcane spells... Well and so I shall depart now. How I be thankful of any of ye answer me questions here...

Its a pleasure to meet ye all and Farewell me friends!

@Durwyn, BG2 can use 800 x 600, among other resolutions. No other game is necessary, though BG2: Throne of Baal is an excellent add-on you may want to consider. (It includes some new quests, a new party character, a bunch of items, new spells and abilities, and raises the experience level for all professions.) The game is particularly attractive for the interactive dialog and actions of party members--including deadly battle, on occasion, when differently aligned folk differ on points of honor. I'm sure you'll be pleased with that wondrous Dwarven fighter, Korgan, who may be found in one of the land's many fine inns. Welcome, and enjoy!

May I also add, that the graphics are relativitly better then in IWD, HOW, and it is so popped of different quests and side-quests, so you will have no problem complaining about that the quests are so alike.

Hope you will enjoy your travels in Baldur's Gate 2, I certainly did.

see ya!

Ah Thanke ye so much fable and Sir Exxon. I bow before ye .

Also what do I need to play BG2 Shadows of Amn and ToB? Do I need BG1 or Sword Coast? Or both? Or is 1 = Swordcoast? Like how many BGs are there lol. And wow if the graphics are just a tad bit better than that is still great . Well I think I'll get into BG soon .

buy Baldurs gate 2, and then buy Throne of Bhaal which requires BG2 shadows of amn. And No u do not need BG1 or tales of the sword coast to play BG 2

The Baldur's Gate saga began with Baldur's Gate 1. Tales of the Sword Coast was released as an expansion to BG 1.

After that, BG2 came along, followed by it's expansion, Throne of Bhaal.

It is all the same story (beginning in BG1) so you might want to play through the entire series if you are interested in starting at the beginning, but it is by no means absolutely necessary. =)

Hmmm... Well, if I dont need BG1 to play Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal then I'd just get those two without BG1, at least thats what I think I'll do. But perhaps I will get BG1, hehe is BG1 quite long? And in BG1 can you use 800x600 resolution like in Heart of Winter, or does it only come with BG2? Basically is BG1 any better graphic wise than Icewind Dale? (Not HoW).

BG1 was the original game, so it has the "worst" graphics (they are still good). There is no CONFIG program like in IWD or BGII. I am playing my first character taken all the way through BG1, TOSC, BGII, and TOB (I am in BGII right now), and there are a lot of references I missed the first time through because I hadn't played BG1 for a long time.

BG1 is 640x480 only. Especially with the expansion it is long (took me forever to get though Durlag's). I also found it harder than BGII, mostly because your characters are lower level and have fewer options and more limitations on them.

BG1 is a good game, but IMO it's nowhere near the classic that BG2 is. The resolution is lower. The pathing AI is terrible. There's almost no inter-party dialog. Instead of jumping from site to site, you have to travel through large wildernesses slowly. Quests are more basic, and fewer in number at any given time. Maps are not marked for important locations.

Actually, I *like* BG1. It has a lot of things to offer that I didn't mention. But everything it has, BG2 has more of, and the latter fixes all the problems I noted, above. BG2 is a far superior game.
