How do I get into Spellhold?

I am trying to get into Spellhold, I've got the wardstone from the mage which gets me into the building but once I'm there I can't get beyond the first room because both doors are magically locked, and can't be picked. Can anyone help?

*Fairly big spoiler ahead* You may be experiencing the spellhold bug. When you first entered the building there should have been someone there who offers to give you a tour. here's the spoiler, this is Irenicus. When you take the tour with him, the story thread continues and you are able to proceed with the game. The bug is that sometimes, however, he does not offer the tour and says little or nothing to you. If this happens, you need to attack him outright in order to continue the storyline. Also, I have a question. Are you playing a Paladin right now. If so, I think I get the gist of this bug.

There was nobody there when I entered the building. That does sound like it might be the answer though, do you know of any way around it? Also, no I am playing a ranger.

Try convincing Desharik to let you in. He's in a building in the North East of Brynn Law. You'll either need a reference from that captain, I forget his name, or to bribe the door guard. You'll need high charisma or Minsc to pull it off though.

The real p***er though, is that I'd already said to him that I didn't want to go with him and he disappeared saying something like don't bother coming back so I'm kind of stuck. Also my last autosave and quicksave were after this point and my last named save before that was about 2 weeks ago. SH*T. Thanks for the help though.
