I have completed ToB and Shadows of Amn with many charachter classes, but have found none as fun as an Elven Archer that I use now. I never see anybody else on here talk of archers, indeed little talk is given to rangers in general I was wondering if there were many other rangers out there? In particular archers? If not, do try it! Nothing more rewarding than mowing down an angry fire giant with a hail of arrows before he can get up close and personal enough to use his axe/hammer Archers/Rangers, post here! Also anybody else who has an opinion on the class they would like to share, good or bad.

Non-Biased Opinion: Archers are the single most powerful and well-rounded class ever made in the BG2 game.

They definately are fun to play. If you really want to know about archer players here, simply make a search. You should find there are quite a few of us out here. Nice to see yet another of the bow.

Archers are actually one of the better-liked PC classes in BG2, at least in many posts I've read. Nothing beats taking down an adversary quickly at a distance. I tend to prefer mage, sorc and battlemage types, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the joys of shooting somebody's brains out before they've had a chance to draw a weapon. Such positive and promt replies are good to hear, I was debating for a long time though Stalker or Archer. The +1 to hit an damage with missile weapons every 3 levels certainly swayed it. Any of you guys who replied or anyone else out there, what level Archers do u have? i could imagine damage at top levels to be immense! I find when playing multi player with mates, archers make the perfect guys to scout ahead and check out the enemy whilst hiding in shadows.

I've soloed an archer through ToB. My level was whatever the cap is like 34 or something, after 20 most bad guys are not that hard unless they are immune to missle weapons. As for scouting, rangers are great, especially they can actually fight back when found, and even better if you can find the cloak of non-detection, you usually never get found.

I'm soloing a F/C right now (Chap 3) and a elven archer (Chap 2). The thing I found to be most helpful is running away. If you start taking a beating, beat feet. I buy every potion of invisibilty that I can. Get the boots of speed as quickly as possible. These have helped more than anything else. Grab the belt of hill giant strength for those times when you have to melee.

Thanks for all the replies on this topic, however I was having problems with traps, mainly walking over them because though they are detectable I couldnt disarm them. Any tactics for that?

Basically, what I have done is just save and then trigger the trap if I have to. If it kills me I try another way, you can sometimes skirt traps.. If it just hurts me I heal or regenerate back and keep running. Some traps you can't avoid and you have to depend on your saving throws to save you from their effects.

You shoud try to kill Irenicus with your Thief(set traps ability). It was very funny, he hasn't had even a time to speak his final words. Place traps at the place when he appears BEFORE killing the last parasit on the Tree of Life.
