I'm really having a hard time deciding on whether to take on Jan and drop Yoshimo, Or continue with Yoshimo. Anyone have the same problem?

Well, what chapter are you in, and is this your first time through the game? If it is, I'd take both of them. If not, you can probably guess what I'm hinting at, so drop Yoshimo and grab Jan instead.

Jan every time as he is hilarious and truly original, whereas Yoshimo is dull. Plus Jan can also cast spells, which makes him more flexible. Finally he is such a snappy dresser he will blind/stun most of your opponents before they get chance to react...

Well, you can guess where this is going.
Jan: Ah, this reminds me of my Cousin, Tyllie Fleetknees, and the garden she had at the foot of a dryad tree in the Forest of Wyrms. I tell you, she went up expecting well-aerated soil and did she get a surprise? Oh yes indeed! Why, I remember it like it was burned into my memory with a flaming stick, which was very close to the truth actually... Jaheira: Jan? Jan: Er...yes? Jaheira: Not now. Jan: Ah...of course. |

I wish I hadn't had to drop him, but as I was a mage/thief it seemed sensible. I can't wait to finish, to replay with Edwin, Viconia and Jan all the way through. Keldorn and Valgar are good fighters but dull as ditch water and Aerie's 'I am so glad you brought me with you...', usually as she is being laid into, strikes of sado-masochism or tempting fate. Either way it really grates. Sorry, wandered away there...

I'm in the early stages of Chapter 2.. I have completed the Slaver quest and about ready to go help Nalia. My party right now consists of Gabriella (Cavalier), Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Anomen (talk about grating on the nerves!! ), Aerie.

It gets worse Gabriella. I assume your character is female like mine, so your only potential love interest is Anomen! My party was Suul-Yinn(mage/thief), Minsc( I had him in BG1 too), Anomen, Jaheira(keep her she is excellent at nobbling mages with her insect attacks), Nalia and Aerie. I dropped Minsc for Keldorn, but I miss his silly remarks. Anomen's quest I screwed up and so I replaced him with Valygar, who although an excellent fighter, after his quest quickly becomes very dull. Nalia's quest is good and the plot does thicken, but she too is boring. I haven't found Aerie's plot yet and I wish I had replaced her earlier. The most interesting NPC's are the evil ones, so next time I am going to be a bad boy...

Are you enjoying being a Cavalier as I was quite tempted to play one after I play through again as a Kensai/Mage?

You should note that not all good characters come to blows with evil characters. Mazzy and Korgan form some sort of a friendship at a certain point (but only after a huge slew of lewd remarks from Korgan ).
