Well lets keep our fingers crossed for Oblivion to be released in the near-future holiday season. Hopefully it will rejuvenate this forum (I only see 2 non stickied threads lol).

BTW, the game is shaping up nicely according to interviews and what the devs say on the forums.

Every single gaming site is giving a different and absurd release date. I'd estimate sometime between November-Febuary for the PC. For the 360, probably the same time and for the PS3 (which is disputed) a long time from now.

WRONG!

There is no PS version.

Release dates for PC and XBOX will be Holidays 2005, which probably means early november.

Oblivion for xbox will be a launch title.

No official annoucement of the PS3 this ES Forum moderator makes a good point.

"A PS3 or Revolution version have not been officially announced, yet. But that doesn't mean a version for either will be announced in the future. The Xbox360 version wasn't announced until May 16th. The PS3 is released in spring/summer next year. Plenty of time left. I do think, however, that if a PS3 version of Oblivion isn't announced before the PS3 is released it's relatively safe to say it won't happen

Quote:
The game will also be released on the next-gen consoles. Could you tell us which consoles and why these consoles? Is the game exactly the same?Right now we are announced for PC and Xbox 360. We haven’t announced any other consoles at this time. Our generally philosophy is that we want as many people to play our games as possible and will consider any platform that can support our game. Other than the interface, the game content is identical.
We know Oblivion will use of various software, such as Gamebryo, Havok, Facegen, Speedtree and FMOD. And, most likely, some minor DirectX functions for input (controller/keyboard/mouse)

Gamebryo have already been announced for the PS3.

Havok have been announced for the PS3 aswell.

The FaceGen SDK is shipped with "Full C++ source code is included for maximum flexibility and portability".

Nothing official have been announced for Speedtree regarding PS3 as far as I know. However, it will be used with the Unreal3 engine, which will be available for PS3. SpeedTreeRT is also shipped with full C++ source just like FaceGen.

FMOD have not announced a PS3 version yet, but they are working on Xbox360 and PSP versions. FMOD support more platforms than any of these APIs so it wouldn't be farfetched to assume that a PS3 version will arrive.

As for DirectX, it's for input and that shouldn't be too much work to re-code that for the PS3.

Considering all these things, I would be quite surprised if it's not released for the PS3. Morrowind was a big hit on the consoles, and it's obvious that Bethsoft wants to expand the console market to make more money.

As for a release for Revolution, I hope it will happen too. The larger the potential market is, the better."

P.S. Pete Hines, head of public relations and marketing said they are pushing for a 2005 release. So we will probably see it around Thanksgiving-Christmas. That is my guess.

They will not make a PS3 version, Microsoft has a dealwitth Bethesda to give them exclusive console rights to the game. Same reason there will never be a Halo for any other console, unless it is hacked. But good news, Rockstar Entertainment and SquareEnix moved to the XBOX360 so now we will be getting the GTA games anf the Final Fantasy games. Woot!

Where did you read this about "exclusive console rights". I think it is more than likely that Oblivion will run on other consoles. The devs even stated that "They haven't announced any other consoles at this time". That indicates that there will be other consoles compatible with Oblivion, but they haven't released the info yet.

Well regardless of how many sources you have I still question the accuracy of this. I'll wait for official annoucements.
