The more I play this game, and I've played it quite a lot, the more I am impressed by the Staff of Doom.

Its a certain find rather than random drop, its available fairly early in the game, its usable by any char, its hitting power is awesome, its extended so can be used by a back row char or a front row without wasting a move to get closer.
The -1 Regen is a small price to pay.

So many of the best game weapons are random drops or not available to quite late in the game, and often you cant rely on geting them, or have to struggle with a poor weapon for most of the game until you get the powerful weapon.

Staff of Doom is now my choice of weapon for all solos. I just ran a solo Ranger and the Staff of Doom was great, I was doing MORE damage with it than with L Sword (both skills were around 80) and the crits are phenomenal, every single game I get far more than the rating of 15%. It Hexes or Paralyses just about every combat round, and you have that great bonus of a Lev 6 (or 5 , cant remember) Death spell, pretty useful tool for a melee char.

I'm going to start up a solo Fairie Fighter equiped with dual Fairie wands to get staff skill up fast, then as soon as poss will make a combat run for the Staff of Doom.

I'd agree with the staff of doom. I used it as a warm up for the CoC with my fairy ninja, and I've been an absolute killing machine with it.

Yeah, Doom rocks. For ages I never thought much of it because I gave it to magic users and I think one time a monk, but once I gave it to a fighter I was blown away! With a fighters berzerk and high strength, it did great damage. But the best thing was that my fighter could now, not only KO, but hex, instakill and paralyze. It's light-weight, fast and has extended reach (to get all those hard to reach places). So long as you can get around its curse, you're set. Only problem is finding decent staves to practice with till you get it.

As for the best weapon in the game, it depends who you give them to.

For example,

Staff of Doom is a good all rounder, but for a samurai, I'd choose the muramasa, and the light sword when fighting androids (if I can be bothered getting them of course).

The COC would be the best weapon in the game, if you didn't have to be a flippn' faerie ninja to wield it.

Mind blast rod can also be used by a psionic.
Although my current party is magic-only, thus i use it only for its activation.

Actually Z-Bo is Monk&Samurai, Mindblast is usable by everyone who can cast from psionic book (->bishop, psionic & monk). It's good at the beginning, but only for the activation.

A disadvantage of Doom is its two-handedness. Shields do come in handy for solos, if you're not stealthy.

I would say that Light Sword is better because you can either dual wield with it or use a shiel as ferro had pointed out. But since Light Sword is a rare random drop most of the time you could use doom.

as great as the staff's instakill percentage is the best part about the staff is the paralyzation feature - consider not only that the opponet paralyzed can't hit you but that you also start doing multiples of damage. Its my preferred fighter weapon, train w/ shill@@S dual wield.

For a solo character I always go with 2 stilletos and a critical skill maxed (from a ninja level or 2) this gives just about the highest number of attacks (depending on your class at the time) with the highest freq. of criticals, and almost as importantly it drains your stamina VERY little - as opposed to muramasa, light, fang.

while it's not a'best' weapon, the stun rod is pretty good for a mundane weapon. When I had a valk use it,I got pretty good paralyze percents, and when that didn't work, eventually the enemy would pass out from stamina drain. the bad is it's heavy (18 lbs)and has -1 or so init.

Best weapon is a bishop toting around mana stones. After that I've never had either but I'd go with a max lvl omnigun or light sword.

I had a top level Omnigun once and its awesome when it gets there but you spend 95% of the game developing it. You also have to carry a LOT of ammo, AND the Gadgies heavy instruments. I didnt find it practical.

The Light Sword is the best swor in the game but only a small chance random drop. Ok normally if you have the patience for multiple reloads but almost a certain no-show on Ironman.

I prefer weapons I KNOW I will get, that way you can develop the chars for them.
