Well, so i wanted to have a little fun, and decided to activate and destroy the Wilderness experience. I had already placed the AD, so i had to have the DD with me. In order to use my nice Infy helm, i dropped the DD in the first chest i got to in the WC, thinking to myself, "i better get that before i leave, or the place will disappear." Then, after killing all those lovely Knights and Masters, i decided to test that theory. I saved just inside the WC, left and came back, to the other WC, without my DD in a chest, etc. I was right! Then i reloaded the game where i was still inside the WC, and NOTHING!!!
I tried a save from earlier, inside the WC, that even had a picture of the intereior of a tent in the saves file. NOTHING again!!! So, even if your save's icon, and the graphic to look at while it's loading, both have images of the Rapax Away Camp, but you don't have the required items, you get the EMPTY away camp! (lucky me, i still had the save from just before entering)
So, if you're gonna load a save made in the Away Camp, your party must have the items in its posession in the save.
Really is kinda puzzling, actually, that they used that as the trigger for the AC, considering that it's very possible to get 2 of the three without ever even having met the Rapax or (less likely) talked to any Umps or T'rang...

Can you put the DD in a chest? I thought it was one of those "On second thought, you decide you better hang on to it" type deals.

What happens when you set a portal in the WC, then go off and get two items and portal back in?

You can put anything in a chest--just put it on your cursor and touch the lid. That's how you can get rid of unwanted used keys, etc.
I dunno about portalling like that, i have no current games i can test it with, either, but i guess if you have the items, it'll change for you just like it did in reverse for me.
