Question 1. I accidentally turned off the popup message you get when a skill increases. I know they are increasing, but I like to see that message because it gives me a sense of accomplishment. Is there a way to turn them back on?

Question 2. I have a Felpurr Monk that is using Dual 1 handed staff and wands. I have not put any points into Martial Arts yet. Is it better to give your Monk 1 handed staffs and wands so they can dual weild, a 2 handed staff, or no weapons at all?

Thanks,

You can turn on the pop-up messages from the general options screen.

I find Monks do best with Martial Arts. The Power Attack skill works with martial arts just as it does with weapons, so you should consider raising strength with that in mind.

Martial arts is the only skill which also increases damage, not only to hit, so if you get it up high it is one of the best skills for a monk IMO. Unless you find a weapon which is particularly strong.

Thanks for the help. I figured it would be in the General Options screen, but I could not find it. I checked all 3 pages but did not see anything that looked like that option. Maybe I am blind I'll look again, but if anyone knows the name of that specific Option that would help.

It looks like I will be putting down the sticks with my Monk then. I have not invested any points in Martial Arts yet, but at least I am still early in the game.

Follow up question to that then... Does a Monk with Martial Arts also need Dual Weapon skill since he is using both hands? I would guess not, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

If he is using martial arts he does not need points in dual wield.

There's a simple proof to show that dual wield doesn't help martial arts. Check the value of it after you've been using martial arts for a few levels. Notice how it doesn't change? If you were using it at all then it would have increased.

It's under General Options, page 3, fourth line.

Maybe you couldn't find it because your system is configured to block popups?

The Zatoichi Bo is a pretty fine monk weapon, 2 handed staff which happens to have an extended range. So, I suppose that depends on where your monk is in your party formation. A monk on the front lines may prefer martial arts, but if you don't have room up there, maybe go with the staves as you will be able to melee from the back row.

Yah, and if you fight with a stick in your secondary slot, you'll develop Martial Arts a bit more slowly, but you'll also develop Staff/Wand and incidentally Dual Wield. I've used the 'no misslie' combat approach a few times now with some success, and when i do it with a Monk, i start out with slings so they have some points in Throw to work things like Death Bombs, and when i get a Hayai Bo, i start using it in the Alternate slot, and take the practise stick out of the Secondary so Martial Arts works up faster.
