Uplink Question

I was wondering if anyone has played the game Uplink? Its a hacker game and Im stuck on a couple of missions. Anyone know how to crack lvl 8 encryption or get a virus to take out the mainframe? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

as far as im aware there isnt level 8 encryption. after you patch the game, you should be able to crack the maximum encryption with the maximum decrypter. . the virus you need is called revelation, and you get it through the quest misions (the ones that get send to you you dont request.) you need to copy the file into the file database, and then go back and into the console. then type

dir usr
run revelation

that should do it. if you want to just take out one you can use the commands

dir usr
delete
dir sys
delete
dir log
delete
shutdown

in the console. make sure you have time though . for the patch, and more information, go to www.introversion.co.uk . the patch is there and the forums are great. (i am also the Zero Alpha there too )

Level 8 encryption is a bug, no files should have that level of encryption. There is no way to decrypt it. Either abandon the mission or just leave it, there are no negative consequences to leaving the mission undone.

And zero alpha got the dir command mixed up with the CD command. The stuff dealing with deleting the logs is optional (you get a better news report), so if trace time is getting short, skip that folder. The usr folder is essential, as is the sys folder. You will also have to let ~3 hours of game time pass before the mission will count as completed, as the news aricle has to appear.

If you dont have the patch, get it now. You need to create a new user to use the patch features (Chris coded it so world generation is all done at user creation, so if you use an old file you get none of the new features.) so you dont want to get to top level everything and then have to start all over again.
