I have finally begun playing the game and I have to admit that the beauty of it has really surprised me. All the still pictures I have ever seen showed Morrowind as washed out in color. I have been walking around the first town and what a pleasant gaming experience it was to actually have the sun arc over me and settle into sunset, only to then have the moon on high with tons of stars overhead. I can see why so many people speak highly of the game.

Since I don't have a Game Manual (game came with my new video card) I am still at a loss about the following. If you can help it will be much appreciated.

1. Buying/Bartering. I haven't really gotten the hang of this. Is this straight forward or are there tricks to this?

2. I press "e" to jump but nothing happens. Is this the right key or am I missing something?

3. I understand that in order to increase your major/minor skills you must engage in activities to increase them. I know about running, but what about sneaking, etc.?

4. Can one memorize spells and if so how do you accomplish this?

* Thanks for your help and if you got any other tips by all means send them along!

1) Buying/bartering: you get better prices the higher your Merchantile skill is and also on how well the particular vendor likes you (you can bribe them to like you better by going into persuasion option). With high enough skills and with merchant that likes you, you can actually make money on single items at vendor (literally buy low and resell to them higher).

2) "e" is the jump key, unless it has been changed in the options (this is the default key for jump). However, you can't jump very high/far with a low acrobatics skills (like when you start the game).

3) ALL skills increase with use. The higher the skill level, the more practice or repetition it requires to further improve it (so to gain skill in acrobatics, from level 5 to level 6, jump around about 30 times or so, to increase from 9 to 10 jump around for 100 times or so, etc.). When creating character, pick skills for major/minor areas that you will actually use. Alternatively, you can train skills by finding trainors and paying for improvements in specific skills.

Edit: Note that you gain levels by acummulating a total of ten increases in major/minor skills, so you should try to avoid putting acrobatics and athletics into major/minor choices, as you will level up too quickly without adequate supporting skill advances.

4) You don't memorize spells, you have a mana pool (based on a multiple of your intelligence, multiple depends on your race and the sign you choose when creating character) and cast spells using this mana to fuel each one. More powerful spells, or those with longer durations, cost more mana to cast.

Just to add on what Greystone said about spells, since I'm not sure how much you know (I was clueless as well ), you can either cast spells from scrolls, items or your own store of spells. To learn a spell you don't 'read' it off a scroll like in some games, you either buy them from someone (the option is 'spells' like 'barter'), you can buy special spells made from combinations of spells you already have (the option is 'spellmaking'), you start with some spells, or occasionally you can learn them from books you read. Then to cast them, right click and you'll see a list of all the spells you know in the bottom right box (in yellow), with the magicka they require and your chance of success (remember your chance of success depends on your skill in that spell's domain, for example a healing spell require the restoration skill, and how fatigued you are). Click on a spell then you can cast it like you use an item.

Hope that makes sense! And I so agree about the graphics! I wander about at night looking up at the sky - the moons and starts are so beautiful!

1. When you want to buy stuff, click on the merchant stuff you want to buy and click buy. that goes the same for selling as well. Actually, there's a bug with the merchantile skill, the higher it is, the lower the price that you can sell your goods to the merchant and also the lower the price of good you can buy from the merchant. If your merchantile skill is low, you will buy a high price from merchant but the merchant will buy a high price from you. This goes the same for disposition, ie. the higher the merchant disposition towards you, the lower the price of good you pay to merchant but the merchant will also pay you less for any goods you sold to them. So becareful about this two.

For Bartering, If the merchant do not have enough gold. first sell them cheaper stuff. then rest for 24 hours. then buy back the stuff you sold to them and sell them more expensive stuff. then rest 24 hours again and then sell them some more. repeat and repeat until you sold everything.

3. If you want to sneak, first go in front of a npc and prsee left ctrl. you will then go to sneak mode ( you can see a sneak icon below ), then slowly move to his back. Remember : To improve sneak there must be another npc nearby.

4. When you buy spell from a merchant, to spell will be with you forever. you can create more powerful spell with that.
