What is the point of having Haer'Dalis in your party?

He is a bard with a bad song and has low hps and isnt good at casting spells. I know you can save him form that wizard guy and that you cand o the quest with the rescuing of the actors. but an someone please tell me what use he has as a member of your party? what is he good at how does he help you win?

Also what does my name appear as a guard with those 4 red shields how do i fix this?

Welcome! I never had Haer Dalis, I think he is really bad. I heard he can be good, but really now, he sucks in my opinion.

you need the girdle of strength the gauntlets of dexterity celestial fury the bard plate you get from his quest wich is later replaced by the armour af the jester and cloak of reflexion.
Spells needed:magic missile, mirror image, breach, stone skin, shadow door, melfs minute meteors,.

Use celestial fury in the off-hand, prepare all spell defenses before hand and cast melfs minute meteors. Now either use defensive spin and cast tons of spells with your massively great armour class or (my favourite) use OFFensive spin and get REALLY CLOSE to the enemy. Thus he has around 8 attacks per round and celestial fury. He does around 50 damage a round with all this. If you still find him crap then well your just weird!!!!!

In other words, you have to give him all the best items in the game and babysit him, spell by spell, in order to make him as good as Keldorn with a +1 sword and his basic AI. Right?

Not that I'm saying your strategy is bad, I just don't like Bards, and NPC Bards in particular. Why have a Bard when you could be using a warrior-type? Sure, a Bard's a good secondary Mage, but that's what Jan is for.

What the hell IS a "Tiefling," anyway? Another type of Elf, like Avariel?

I actually like Haer'Dalis.
I know he isnt the best NPC ever, but he is ok.
He is the only bard-NPC, he is cool, and he can get really powerful with the sword Cutthroat +4!
BTW, SixOfSpades, a tiefling is a creature that is half elf and half demon.

OK... HaerDalis is not a good fighter, has very few spell memorisarion slots, and has incredibly low HP's... so the point of having him in ur party?? ENTERTAINMENT. He has some realy funny dialogues with and about other NPCs for example:
"This is a world of wealth and commerce, perhaps we could sell Jaheira??"
This dialogue, i found HILARIOUS. But other than this, without special items or a bit of cheating, HaerDalis is practically useless... but ismt comedy a use after all??

Everybody in your party gets special equipment. Why can't Haer'Dalis get any? I always shake my head when people complain that you need special equipment for certain NPCs. Everybody needs, or rather, wants special equipment.

There are several Bard tricks of the trade that you can use with Haer'Dalis. Haer'Dalis can have 6 attacks per round without the aid of Potions, Haste or Improved Haste. Haer'Dalis can take on Bodhi without using a Protection from Undead scroll. Haer's Dalis can sing his Bard song and fight at the same time. Haer'Dalis can clear out a Mind Flayer lair by himself without getting hit once. Haer'Dalis may not be an uber NPC, but he is far from weak if used properly.

Any NPC can be good. Any NPC can be annoying. Haer'Dalis is very annoying to me (I'm not his "raven") so I don't use him, except in TOB to take damage from the Gaming Cambion. BTW a tiefling is some sort of halfbreed demon/human.
