Playing through first time, I accepted Z'ant's quest to retrieve an Umpani flag. Did several other things before I got the flag (swamp, Crock, couple of retro dungeons, etc.), nothing to disturb my T'Rang alliance that I know of.

Went through N Wilderness, entered Umpani base, got the flag and did nothing else, returned to Bluff. Z'ant is now neutral (not hostile, neutral - this I don't understand), tells me "I've got nothing to sssay to you". When I give him the flag, "offer" him the flag, or click it on him, he tells me "It isss better with you." He's not hostile, my alliance with T'Rang in the journal is "friendly". I pressed "friendly" and got the brush off. Now I can only "offer" "threaten", "attack", "magic", "leave". Tried "magic" charm level 3, my characters don't have a lot of strength with that spell - if it's a matter of higher level charm, please advise.

Did I do something to void this quest, and therefore the entire T'Rang adventure? I've killed no T'Rang, and don't know how I may have pissed them/him off.One thing that I did was to fix the tracking device in the control tower in Arnika, so I don't have the ball anymore - would that do it?

This happens both as a T'Rang ally only and when I tried double-agent.

Any suggestions, questions, ideas? Thanks.

Try approaching him, and, without opening the dialog menu, take the flag from inventory, and click it on him. This is generally the best way of 'giving' something to NPCs.

Two exceptions [that I can think of right now]: when/if you join the Umpani, you will be given a level one security pass and sent for training. DO NOT give the training sargent the pass: will cause a permanent bug. Let him do his little speech, or he'll try to do it every time you meet.

When traveling with the folks you rescue from the Rapax away camp [assuming you go for the alliance quest], do NOT give stuff to the general. Just open the dialog box and let the former prisoners do the talking.

Thanks - I did try clicking the flag, unfortunately that's when he tells me that it'sss better with me. Still stumped, but playing through as a "double-agent", albeit abbreviated on the T'rang side. I've paid He'li so we'll see what happens and do it differently on the next try...

Hmm, I have only made Anna in Arnika go "neutral" to me and recover, and there were a few ways to do it if I IIRC (haven't had this happen with Z'ant though, so this may or may not apply). I'd go into a conversation with her, and there would be options to threaten her, bribe her, and to use magic, where I would charm her. Not sure what options you're getting with Z'ant though. But try building up your mental magic by practicing low level charms (or if you have a Bard use the charming violin). If you can successfully charm him it might do the trick, it used to work on Anna.

Thanks Gimli, I wasn't sure if it was worth the time to get a decent charm spell in order. I'll have my destruction-focused psionic learn charm, he'll have the best shot.

Unfortunately, the charm (L7 from psionic w/massive mental magic) did not work, back to the drawing board.
