Went to the umpani camp and saw a sight to behold...A weapon of such magnitude that I had to acquire it post haste. Yep you guessed it from the title of this post...Bessie the blunderbuss is mine. 2-48 cannon, -2 initiative kill 5%. Just wondering if there is a better modern weapon for my fighter for his ranged attack. Ideas?

you will get a very high teck gadget. your skills must be
very high to use it and you will get it 3/4ths through the game. forget about getting those hand guns the umpami have, they're not aquireable. |

The only thing that better than a Blunderbuss is the Frontier Phaser. Its light, requires no ammo, and has a 5% chance to kill. Generally, bows/xbows are a better choice for ranged combat, especially for melee characters. Modern weapons get no damage bonuses and no extra attacks from the Modern Weapon skill. Bow ammo can have a greater %chance to kill, along with a %chance on the bow. Strength increases bow damage, and high level bows have up to 50% increase in damage. Bows are not limited to the amount of ammo they can fire in one round, and its not uncommon for a 20+ character to shoot 6 to 12 arrows a round. [ 05-02-2002, 01:49 PM: Message edited by: Avenstar ]

Not aquirable..? I have 2 of them in my party and am doing well with them so far...The frontier phasor looks phasor...hopefully I will run across it. I didnt consider the damage bonuses on the bows though or the fact that you can hit 5+ times. Currently my ranger has a 101 in ranged combat and 80ish in the "bow" skill. I have a greenwood bow and am hitting 3-5 per round with barbed arrows or whatever I can scrounge up. I like the fact that the blunderbusses can hit 40+ per shot and am working my modern weapon skills up to the point where they can fire 2 shots per round. When I am up to the mid 80's on my modern weapon will the percentage of higher hits increase?
-Avenstar- I looked at your chart and noticed that you do not have a max shot per round for the rocket launcher listed. So far I have a 65 skill in modern weapons and a 55+ in ranged combat which enables my gadgeteer to fire 2xs per round with the rocket launcher. [ 05-04-2002, 07:57 PM: Message edited by: Miinxx ]

where is that damn phasor? I still can't find the thing! Even if it sucks I still want to at least *look* at it! And if it dosent use ammo, what are the powerpacks for? I always assumed it was for some tech-weapon.

The Frontier Phasor can be found in 3 places:
1)Jan-ette 2)Bayjin Chest in hut with single Rynjin Sentry(Light Sword chest) 3)Buccaneer Ghosts

If your chars are good with bows, then I would recommend a Tripleshot crossbow. It fires an extreme amount of shots per round (untrained and lvl 1 would still have 3 shots/attack) - and a BARD can use it
Even though I have some really nice bows, I still use the tri-crossbow, because of the amount fired from it is the best. GodSlayer |

The tripleshot crossbow, however, can only be made if you have a gadgeteer in your party, and if you do a lot of shooting, I have found keeping quality ammunition for it is very very difficult. Personally, I prefer bows like the Hunter bow (with a 5% kill in it), but that's just a difference in personal preferences and playing styles. However, I have to say that it's really nice for instance on Ascension Peak when you are able to crit your lovechild with your first shot from your fighter, followed by critting the Rapax prince with the first shot from your samurai *grin*

For non-rangers, the high %crit bows are better than the double and tripleshot, but for a ranger, the more shots you fire, the higher the chances for scoring a critical hit. Rangers dont need the best ammo available, especially when shooting 9 times a round.

yah! love those rangers, esp once they get a critting melee weapon, too. I just started a party of 5 with a Gad, a Sam and 3 Bish, who will change to Monk, Ran, and Nin. (Gnome, Rawulf and Fairy, resp.) Bishop to Ranger has been one of my favorite class changes for the last 4 games i played through. I like saving the spell picks for Alch until after the change, like i'm doing this time for the other 2 as well; i can change at L 18 and then get the rest of the spells as my new class is getting worthwhile. (i even saved 5 level-ups before i changed the last time)
