I went from the Mines to Lower Marten's Bluff via a little mine car. We I got to an area with four locked doors, I opened the doors starting with the southern door and getting the special pick out of the third room to open up the last door. When I open the last door, there are two lesser quards (40-45 hit points) that attack me. No problem wipping them out. Then a character that's names Z'Ant (something) with hit points around 450 attacks me. I thought that he was supposed to talk to me. Did I screw up by going straight from the mines to Lower Marten's Bluff. Should I go to upper first?

At first, Z'ant is the queen of al T'rangs..like Yamir is for Umpani and if you want to work for T'rangs you must speak to him very often.
If the guards attack you you are hostile to the T'rang and Z*ant also attacks you. He is very hard but with magic screen and element shield you should manage it.
Normally the T'rangs are not hostile if you arrive at Marten's Bluff the first time; you must have attacked a T'rang somewhere else before, perhaps you killed Tantris in the mines.
They are not hostile as long as you are not hostile
It has nothing to do if you have been to upper MArtens Bluff before but if you have killed T*Rangs
Try your luck

if the t'rangs are hostile towards you and z'ant won't talk to you then you might as well forget about having anything to do with the t'rang except for killing them. your only choices are to either start over, go back to a previous saved game (if you have one), or just kill the t'rang and align yourself with the umpani.
