Okay, I had a good party that I've gotten a good distance into the game, Did most of the Umpani quests, none of the T'Rang's, but been to Marten's bluff, returned the idol, etc..

I was using a Sam-Fig-Ran-Gad-Bar-Bis and they're a nice group, very well rounded, but I wanted to try a different setup, so I'm seeing if anyone has the same.

Now, I'm using a Human Lord, Hobbit Rogue, Fairy Ninja, Mook Ranger, Human Bard, Elven Bishop (the same Ran-Bar-Bis from the other party).

I'll try to do the rest of the game with Vi and Madras for Gadgets and the omnigun.

Right now I'm still in the monastery and first impressions is that I'm kicking major butt. My Lord and Rogue mop up the room with the baddies, and the ninja is putting people to sleep with his little fairy stick on occasion.

Right now I'm just looking for comments. I know every party can succeed given time, but maybe someone has thought of something I haven't with this current setup and how it may hinder me. I do know that I'm going to have to be vigilant on training my Lord, Ranger and Ninja in support magic to make up for having only 1 spell caster, and no full-time Gadgeteer to help out with spells.

don't know how your Lord is "mopping up", but I had a magic heavy party (Bish + mage) and they kicked butt, but my fighters did not develop, then when I ran inot someone magic-resistant I was in trouble. So, only advice is to make sure everyone gets involved. Use magic, even if its not "really" needed, make sure fighters get a change to fight. Also second time through (we'll this is my fifth start!) I was doing much better, just because I had experience, so not just party than learns!
have fun!

This is actually like my 6th party total. The first 4 I only took to Arnika/Trynton... that was sort of my Benchmark for determining if I liked the setup.

My 5th party is rocking, but now trying a different spin... most notably trying out the Fairy Ninja and going without a Gadgeteer. Right now, my Rogue is doing the best damage with a Rapier and Main Gauche, but I haven't hit Arnika yet.

I'm sorta doing the same and am on my seemingly zillionth party, though its probably about the tenth. Been up to and done part of Rapax a couple of times but each time I end up starting again!!
last party was 4 PCs: FIG - BAR - RAN - BIS and this worked really well, and converted BAR and RAN to Fighters at Level 18.
This time I am playing witha party of 2!! and hope for once to actually get around to completing the game. My party of two is ROG - ALC rather a strange combination, but in my experience a Rogue is as good at melee as a fighter and has Stealth and all round I feel is the strongest character in the game. I also found that the best spells in the game for wide rangingg damage are the Alchemist spells - he is aweful at the moment (around lev 12 and keeping him alive is tough) but in time he will become VERY powerful. Also they both level up very fast.

Having seen the many postings and differing way people play the game I dont feel there is a right or wrong party, well maybe there is a wrong one! .. but its just down to how you want to play the game.
