Well, you can move in combat, but not the same way as the enemy. You have to move your whole party, not just 1 at a time. When you're choosing your options for the fight, down in the bottom right corner, there's a Walk button and a Run button. Click one of those. When you start combat, it waits until your slowest party member has his turn, then you can all move.

If you use too much of your move bar, no one will get their attack, but if it's only a little, most people will still have time.

The differences (as far as I can tell) with Run and Walk is that Running will take you further, if you have a lot of distance to cover, but it's a big drain on everyone's stamina, whereas walking is negligible on stamina. I run every time just to cover distance quicker to give my party more fighting time at the end of the run.

Actually, this is another case in which the game manual falls short. You have to click on the walking/moving icon twice. Just once merely enables the move option. THEN, you have to choose between walking and running. The manual doesn't make it clear that there is NO DEFAULT choice here. That caught me as well, except that sometimes I'd accidentally clicked twice and seen the way is was supposed to work.

Another area in which the manual leaves something to be desired is the "facing" option in combat. The entire party doesn't re-face in the direction an enemy approaches, each individual faces the enemy still in the regular fighting formation, still facing whatever direction you were going when the game changed into Combat Mode.

In order to rotate the entire formation, you must choose the Move Icon also, to "Walk", and then when the blue bar comes up, turning does more than move the view around, you can spin the formation to meet the enemy and put the weak spell casters at the rear.

another useful option during combat is to move only one person or change your formation. The advantage is if your flank is already engaged, they can attack immediately, while your front or other flank moves into a blank area of the formation. During combat you do this by clicking on the formation icon onthe bottom right. After combat you will auto-revert to your old formation. This can also be useful if you get along a wall so that one flank is protected, you can then move that flanker over to the other side so they can melee. note: formation changes at the END of that round.

One last thing, SlipdroN. You don't have to use all your movement.
Move to where you want and if you still have movement remaining,
click the X on the blue movement bar.

Why not just use the keyboard shortcuts then?

[R] to select Walk, or
[Shift-R] to select Run

Much easier!
