Need Samurai secondary weapon advice

Hi - what are people's opinions as to what the best secondary weapon options are for a Samurai? Are there any good swords for that slot he can use (with the sword skill bonus this seems like the natural choice).

There are daggers I can find early on that are better than his wakizashi, is dagger a good choice though for the later stages in the game? What about mace, can Samurais use diamond eyes?

He's hitting well with both weapons now at about level 7 (just got Bloodlust, what a difference!), but really doesn't do much damage with the wakizashi so I am wondering if I should use another weapon type; guess the only plus I see now to his current secondary weapon is it hits often because of his sword skill and thus gives him extra chances for critical strikes.

Any Samurai veterans out there with some wisdom?

You might not be satisfied with the upgrade from a standard wakizashi to an enchanted one, but the enchanted one is accessible quite early in the game (and extremely useful, in my opinion).

If I remember correctly, you can find the enchanted wakizashi behind the waterfall in the wilderness area leading to Ascenscion Peak.

The best secondary weapon for a Samurai is the Enchanted Wakizashi. It may not do much damage but it is more chances for a critical strike. Diamond Eyes is not usable by the Samuria. I am tempted in my next game to start out as a Samurai and when my critical strike gets to 50 or so convert to a Lord. This way I have the flexibility of weapons and armor the Lord has with the Critical Strike of the Samurai.

Gimli - I am also running a Samurai with the Bloodlust sword. You need to check the attack stats on the first character page. Using a second weapon can take away from the number of attacks and swings you get with the Bloodlust sword. With the Bloodlust and Wakizashi equiped, I got 1 attack and 1 swing with each weapon. With just the Bloodlust equipped I got 2 attacks with 2 swings. Seeing this I gave my Sammy a Thieves Buckler until my stats got high enough that an off hand weapon did not take attacks and swings away from the Bloodlust sword. I think dual weapons and speed needed to be higher before this happened. Anyone else experience the similar things?

Hey - well if you use just one sword though, then you'd also slow down your development of the dual skill as it would only go up via level-up points and not via practice in combat, and you'd get some points in shield that you wouldn't really need later on. I am really thinking of going with a dagger in the off hand to keep the dual skill improving and letting dagger rise just with practice until sword maxes, then put level up points into dagger. The poison dagger is alot better than the wakizashi, even if it hits alot less often, so I may just take that. If he misses with the dagger alot at first so be it, the small amount of damage he's doing now with the wakizashi won't be missed too much.

Anyone know if there are other good daggers later in the game that a samurai can use? Will it be a good long term choice?
