I ve been trying new partys out. trying to feel them out. playing around to see what works, and what works for me.

Most partys i seen have a Ranger in them for the "Search all the time"

picking up a wiz 8 strategiey book at a book store i found the "Nimble Pary"
Ninja, Priest, Monk, Bard, Rogue
at 2st i was this wont work.. theres no one to take the hits and dish them out. Also no ranger to Search. Beening 5 i taught i could just add him in.

Trying it with out a ranger i haven't seen any real differnce in finding stuff on the ground, but a little as to "seeing monsters"

Playing with this party making the ninja and monk your front line you can mold them for taking a dishing out a beating leaving your rogue to get useful skills pickpocket/locks and traps and working on ranged attacks.
Bard beening your "Mage" and also swinging a good sword. leaving the Priest to heal if you needing at all.

This party is working great for me.. All have high Initiative you get the 1st hits in and if there's any one left, you mop up.

Any one try this party out? is the lack of a ranger a missprint?
Will the lack of any real mages hurt me when i am facing more advanced ememys with spell casters?

Careful reading that book, it can seriously damage your playing pleasure

Basically, there's a LOT wrong with it, it doesn't cover any of the secret areas, many of the maps are wrong or incomplete etc. Worst, from a newbie's PoV the race/class recommendations are highly suspect at times.

That all said, you're right that party is a mis-print: there's only 5 characters. Look at the "Mechanical Party" about and you'll see it had 7 in it! My suspicion is that the Mage above belongs in the group below.

The arguments and discussions on what makes a good party are never ending ...

I think having both a bard and a rogue in the party is a bit redundant. The bard can easily handle whatever thieving, lock opening and trap disarming you may need to do. You could possibly swap the rogue for a fighter, or a bishop.

Defensive and repair magics will be more important than attach magics, so you may be able to get away without out a mage, but you will be missing out on a lot of fun !!

For what its worth, my recommended party is:

Fighter
Ninja
Monk
Ranger
Bard
Bishop.

The ranger seems to get more and more useful with multiple shots and insta-kill. My lvl 12 party just killed the Big Cheese. Well, it wasn't really a fight. In the first round my ranger planted one and gave him a Sicillian necktie and that was it. (His last words were, "You dirty rat...")

The book is trash, I feel like I completely wasted $20 on it. As to Rangers, other characters WILL find most of the items to be found, but where the ranger really shines is early spotting of monsters/spotting cammo'd monsters...handy beyond belief!

i never wander without either bard or ranger;
but i use bard mostly, for it helps in combat, locks/traps and pickpocketing; another reason i rarely use rangers is arrows; they weigh alot and i never carry any arrows/stones;
f.e.: priest + psionic always cast spells, samurai casts wizardry spells, monk - psionic spells, bard plays rock with his banjo, and the only exception for ranged attacks is ninja ; i trained her for staffs, and she uses darts, shurikens, knives for distant combat;
later weight means alot (especially when i have 2 faeries, as in my current party);
finding items does not appear to be a problem( except maybe monastery), as 'detect secrets' spell friom psionic book works great;
good luck

Yeah not that theres a right or wrong or best party.. unless your making a party of 2. Faerie fighter and lizardman mage that would make you a compelet TOOL.

Figuer i'll have to play it from start to finsh about 3-4 times before i figuer out what i really like in party. With 1 win and 6 partys on the go.. this game has some good replay vaule.

you're absolutely right!

that's one of the many things that makes this game so great! i have 5 parties going, with 2 brand new ones, and they all make the same "set" encounters, but as far as everything else goes, i am still constantly surprised what they will do and what they will find.

and the only completely right party is the one you are currently playing. even if it is the dread faerie fighter and lizzie mage!
