Is there a place anywhere that lists all of the types of chest traps and what they do?

Not that I know of, but I'm not sure that there's any point to doing so --- AFAIK it doesn't matter if YOU know what the traps do and what their components are, what matters is whether your characters have the skill to (1) recognize the trap; and (2) disarm its components. After that, the game interface is fairly straightforward.

Well, the point is, sometimes there are traps that don't appear to have any effect. Such as the Alarm trap, or some of the "Rune" traps. It's easy to look at your characters and say "doesn't look like anyone got hurt" and just move on, but the trap may have done something like melted all of your gold etc.. And you might want to reload if something like this happened. It would be nice to know beforehand what each type of trap will do if tripped, that way you can plan your actions more appropriately (I.E., there's really no sense in using a knock picks on a chest that only has a dagger scatter trap.)

I see your point. I guess the reason I haven't paid too much attention to trap types is that so far the consequences of screwing up on traps have been negligible, for me at least --- just a bit of damage that is easily healed. Even so, I'd probably just reload if it's as bad as say a drain on hitpoints, or death. The only reason I'd want to see that list is if some of them do something sneaky that you wouldn't notice until it's too late to reload --- melt all your gold, now that would really piss me off

The Alarm trap is easily the best trap to trigger, since all it does is alert monsters in the area to your presence. Can't say I know what the Rune trap does, but you might want to check boards that have files relating to previous Wizardry games, since the trap types (unlike the game of unlocking 'em) hasn't changed in a long, long time.

There is a trap that eat's your gold.. Philosopher's something or other I think it was called. Gives you a message that most of your gold has been turned to lead if I remember correctly.. And by most, it meant like 75% (again if I remember correctly). Only other odd one I've triggered before was the guardian trap.. It summoned a GIANT water elemental from that particular chest.. man, that thing was huge.. heh

When you trigger Philospher's Bane or Heatwave traps, there will be a text message telling you that most of your party's gold has been turned to lead or how many potions ands scrolls got destroyed.
All of the other traps are pretty self explanitory when they go off...you either get injured, killed, or the trap has no effect on your party. fable, thanks for the clue with the alarm trap, I was wondering about that one. Divine Trap is a great spell for boosting your lockpicker's skill at examining it and disarming traps...if you didn't know (my room mate didn't) you can scroll through the list to get the locks matched up in the green (or yellow) boxes to know what you are attempting to disarm. I don't know how he got so far into the game without knowing! |
