It's been over a year since I posted on Ironworks(I think, my concept of time isn't very good) having gratefully received much help playing Wizards and Warriors. Now that Wizardry 8 is out, I had to return! I'm glad Sazerac and Wyvern are still moderators, I really enjoyed talking to them along with everyone else. Sazerac really saved my butt playing Wizards and Warriors. I was almost finished with the game, had to reinstall it, and stupid me when it asked to switch discs I accidentally turned the power off. So I was stuck with a half installed Wizards and Warriors game and couldn't reinstall or delete it the conventional way. So after talking to Sazerac, I was able to delete all files under activision but somehow managed to save my save game file. Sazerac's the best! Anyway, I probably won't get Wizardry 8 till around x-mas but I have played the demo and loved it. I especially loved the fact that you could use a bow in close combat. I guess I should stop rambling but I do have a class question. I like ranger's but it seems in Wizardry 8 you almost have to have a ranger cause they are always in search mode. Is this the general consensus? Glad to be back.

Mike,

WELCOME BACK!

Yes, a lot of us are W&W veterans (and still play it).

Re: your question on Rangers. I really like having one in the party - with high scouting ability I can turn off Search mode for the rest of the party and know that he'll always spot any goodies in the area. He's gotten quite good with his bow and has become a very effective member of the party. My two cents...

Hello!
I did not have a ranger to start with but kept search mode on and watched my map icon for items...later, as my Bishop gained Sense (lol) he has been spotting hidden things here and there, so if I have missed anything, I don't really feel like it was anything significant since the things he spots are readily available in town and we have plenty of cash right now.
A character with a high rating in "Senses" will be able to see things your party may otherwise be walking over and missing. This is with the search mode on...unsure of how the game works with it off other than that you have a greater advantage of not getting caught off guard in potential combat "because you were searching". The X-Ray spell replaces any scouting/senses. You do not even need Detect Secrets spell, because nearly every secret has items in it and those you can see with X-Ray...
