What is the best kit? Why? I am trying to create a new character, and want to try something besides a plain old fighter. Any suggestions?

The Beserker kit is pretty cool. It gives you a cool beserker ability, and the only drawback is that you cannot specialize very much in missile weapons(like you ever use them). Otherwise there is the barbarian, he cannot use platemail, but he got a load of hitpoints, high movement rate and the enrage ability.

in the eyes of the almighty and everseeing Dungeon Master of Infinity, all classes and all kits are equal. every class and kit is powerful in its own right, but can be easily defeated by another. (fighters kill bards, thieves kill fighters, mages kill thieves, bards kill mages... not really any of those, but they can)

Some fun classes are Kensai, Cavalier, Monk, Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Fighter/Mage/Thief. Pretty much every kit is good, but only if you use it correctly.

Cavalier! Noone over, noone at the side!
But seriously, the Cavaliers rock. 20% resistant to fire and acid, immunity against poison and fear, good Paladin-abilities, good bonuses when fighting Dragons, Demons, etc, and they can wield the most powerful sword in the game! Who wouldnt want to play them?

Kensai is fun.
Also you might consider the Monk.
