I've been playing BG for the last 6 months on my desktop which just died and I recently picked up a notebook pc with an A64 3200, 512, ATI Radeon Xpress 200. I expected this system to run the game very well because it far exceeds the system specs for the game. Unfortunately, I find that as I'm scrolling around the map it tends to freeze for a few seconds and does the same when I select characters. Basically, an overall 'bumpy' experience. I downloaded the ver 1.4 patch and I set Hardware Acceleration to 'OFF' in dxdiag, but still getting same results.

Just wanted to know if anybody could suggest anything else I can do to speed things up. I transported my save game files from old pc and I'm just starting Chapter 4----things are getting good!

Any help would be greatly apppreciated!

thanks

There is a patch for Baldurs Gate and tales of the sword Coast that you need to be able to play on on systems better than windows 98SD.

If you are playing on Windows 2000 or Windows XP and are using the 5 CD Baldurs Gate game and the Tales of the Sword Coast disk #6 you will need to Down load the TOSC Direct X 8+ english Patch that can be found at:

http://www.bioware.com/games/tales_s...pport/patches/

If you are using the 3 Disk set that includes Tales of the sword Coast no patch is required but most save games from your old computer will not work on the newer systems. So you will need to start the game over with a fresh load on your lap top.
That was the only way I was able to play the game on a windows XP system and I had to start a new game on a clean install. hope this helps

Ouch! You're right---I just loaded a new game and it is running perfectly. That sucks! I've gotten so far in the game! To be honest--the biggest reason I've been upset that my computer died is because I haven't been able to play BG!

If anybody knows a way to get a saved game from another system to run properly they'll win lifelong adoration from me!

thanks

hmmm... how about sending the saves to someone who has the 5 disc version and windows XP. letting him load it and then re-saving, and sending you the new saves.
It's a longshot but might work...

If you are going to do this, I would recommend you have an identical patch/mod list. I've had difficulties in transferring savegames from one installation to another when this wasn't the case.

One other option is to place the save games in your multi-player save file then try to play in multi-player portion of the game. I usually start all my BG games in single player then transfer them to multi-player.
so take the games that you already have transfered to the Lap Top and open the BG file and then copy and paste the Save Games over to the Multi-player file then open one of your games in multi-player just don't go on line.

Crimsom, where do I paste the save game file to? I'm looking for a folder in my Black Isle/Baldurs Gate folder for some sort of 'multiplayer save' folder. I have a folder called 'save' where my single player save game files are.

Look for a file called MP Save if you don't have this file then follow the steps below if you do have the file then load your games in it and follow from step (B)

(A) FIRST Load a multiplayer game by starting the game and
click: MultiPlayer
then : connect
next : Create game (call it what ever you want)
then cick Load game:
You will have to make at least one character and start the game by clicking create Characterthen done and your game will start. Next save the game and give it a name this will automatically create an MPSave file. Then close out of the game and open your BG file again and look for a new folder Called
(MP Save) this is the multi player save game file place the copied files from the Save file in here.
Next

(B)Start with the first three steps in (A)above until you get to where it says create game and skip down to LOAD GAME and click this and all your games will be listed.pick the game you want to play and click on it. The next screen will be a list of up to 6 characters in that game. On the left of each character will be the round BG logo this is an activation button, click on each of these that have a character name until all are activated and the word done on the bottom of this page is activated then click this and your game will start.
Hopefully your game will play as nornal if not your back to starting over Good luck.
