I'm wondering if anyone has seen these two movies. My bro just came home from college with them on his comp, and let me say they literally are insane. I liked them although realistically, they aren't the most exciting or involved of movies. In fact, there is little if anything spectacular about them. But I just need to say, as much as I thought I'd be disappointed it was fairly interesting.

I just saw Cube a week or so ago. I thought it wasn't too good, I did like the vagueness of it all, the "why are we here" - "I don't know" conversations, and the fact that they needed the autistic savant Kazan to get through the cubes safely. On top of that, the scene where they had to travel one of the cubes in complete silence was mindwrecking at the least, really good stuff
What I hated though, was the complete transformation of the police officer (the black guy, Quentin IIRC) who went from "I'll lead us out of here" to "I'm a raving lunatic and I'll kill you!". In other words, the storyline was inventive, but not worked out properly enough. I do applaud the director for being able to make an interesting movie in an acting space so small.

I loved the first one, but the second one kind of sucked. At least the first one was mostly theoretically possible. The first one had sound-activated spikes and a machine that squirted acid when it smelled humans. The second one had a burning wall that followed them for no reason and some crystal thingies that sometimes killed people. And it didn't behave like a hypercube. And all they really needed to do to escape was wait until it spontaneously collapsed and jump out.

I am gonna see it next week, wonder how good that one will be.
My favorite line by far was from the first cube, when they ask "Is he dead" (In referance to Quentin going pyschotic) "NOT EVEN CLOSE!" (Quentin) He became an absolute pyscho, kinda funny in a way. |

Seen all three, I think they're good. The change in the black cop is one of the highlights of the first one, IMHO.
The second one was good, and the 4th dimension thing was well-though of. Some of the characters who turned into rather interesting characters. Like the dude who collects... things. Cube Zero is a prequel. Has some great traps, good characterisation and an awesome ending. What the movies do best, IMHO, is a great character acting and development. Altho the second two fail far short of the line that the first one made, they're still OK. As I recall, the first Cube was a project started by a few students in a filmmaking academy.

Just finished watching Cube Zero, and I must say its definately worth watching for those who really enjoyed the first movie. It explains a lot, and raises even more questions. Definately worth a watch for those who saw the first Cube.
Cube Zero has more character and plot development, but less emphasis on the actual Cube traversing. But definately a good watch. |
