Ok, this is just a simple query...

If you assume someone had never before played BG, how is the best way to go about making an evil party?

Ok, you can make charname evil, pick up Montaron and Xzar pretty quickly, and also Edwin. But, that leaves you with two Necromancers.

Now, if your assuming they've never played, chances are they will miss Kagain.

And, Tiax, Eldoth & Skie are a long way away.

People like Safana and Shar-Teel, are not found by people who don't explore every screen...

If they play evil, then the likes of Jaheria, Khalid, Xan etc will want to leave the party based on reputation...

I'm just wondering how people fared with this, the first time they played, not knowing where any one was.

Cheers...

Actually, the first time I played I was evil, and got most of the evil characters. I was very persistent back then...

As was I....but, what I was wondering was, how did you fare in the earlier stages of the game, with the good characters leaving...most people miss Kagain, Safana and Shar-Teel early on...

So, for the first 4 chapters I would imagine most people would have:

Charname
Edwin
Xzar
Montaron
(maybe two other good NPC's).

What im saying is, if the good NPC's keep leaving, how did everyone do?

I would imagine that you could keep on some neutral characters by keeping rep around six, no? And Kyrvias, I'm sure you're an exception to the rule... I would imagine people would play good the first time through, simply because that's the way the game nudges you. If you're playing evil the first time through, odds are you're either brand new to this kind of game (in which case you won't get far), or a veteran (in which case you'll leave no stone unturned and thus find the other characters or figure out how to exploit reputation).

I could be completely wrong, but that's what logic dictates.

That's how I viewed it, but was hoping there was someone who was new to the game, yet played evil.

I know on my first go round, I played good.

I found Kagain my first time through. Add him to Montaron and Xzar and you have a reasonable party depending on charname's class. But I think that if it were your first time through you'd have to use neutral characters while assembling the evil party. Garrick, Xan, and Branwen can get you to a balanced party quickly. Would anyone do that first time through? I don't know.

actually, when you start off first, you tend to visit most of the areas out of curiousity

Exactly my point.

Though, I had played IWD before Baldurs gate, so I had the general idea about the game.

But either way, alot of characters, like Garrick, who is neutral, can be in an evil party.

The only problem with evil parties is taht when your verrrry evil, your not feared. You just have to pay outrageous prices, are attacked by the flaming fist or bounty hunters whenever you enter an area, and are *hated*

Its a very good XP builder, let me tell you.
