The great-grandson of Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien is to appear in the final instalment of the movie trilogy.
Director Peter Jackson asked Royd Tolkien, 34, to play a Gondorian Ranger in The Return of the King.

Mr Tolkien, who is from North Wales, said it was "a huge privilege" to take the role in the film, released worldwide between 17-20 December.

Meanwhile, Frodo actor Elijah Wood said he has kept the ring prop from the film but refuses to wear it.

Mr Tolkien said: "I was just blown away when Peter Jackson came up with the idea of putting a Tolkien into the film and to be a Gondorian Ranger is a huge privilege."

He also said he was "incredibly proud" his great-grandfather's stories had been translated on to the big screen.

This is completely opposite from what I have been reading that the Tolien heirs hate the movie and they do not support it at all...nor will they allow P.J. to create a museum in Wellington to put all the props in that were made for the film.

I read that on theonering.net.

So what is going on?

I read on the internet, that the family has split up because of Christopher Tolkien (the manager of J.R.R.Tolkien's literary heritage) did not like the idea of the movies, but other members of the family watched it.

Weird.. Why wouldn't they like the movie? Simply because it is being 'exploited' in Hollywood? Or because it doesn't fit their thoughts on their ancestor's masterpiece?

Probably because of all that was chopped out, bastardized, or completely changed--such as Bombadil, Arwen, and Faramir. There's also the fact that Jackson put waaaayy too much Hollywood into the film (Black Rider at Bucklebury Ferry: A. We don't really need a gripping moment of peril every seven minutes, actually, and B. Oh, so the Nazgul is forced to rein in his galloping horse because the ferry boat is now a full six feet from the pier?), and they're witholding their approval for a less childish retelling of the classic.

I like a lot of the changes made in the film version. I also do NOT like a lot of the changes. On the whole, the film is good. But if it was truer to Tolkien's words, it would have been better.

Then again, if the film was just as good as the book, there would be less incentive to actually read the book.

Personally, I love the movie way more than I love the book.

To me, the two are two different story. The movie is an action movie while the book is a fantasy book.

Same thing as that Romeo and Juliet movie they did a while ago. It was happening in the present, but it was a very good adaptation of the original story. I didn't spend my time telling myself "they didn't do it like that in the book". They are just two different things that share some elements.

You're talking about Romeo + Juliet (with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes) right, Luvian?

Here is an article that might clear things up...

http://www.sundayherald.com/38504

Ican vividly picture Christopher sleeping with the legal documents to the Hobbit and Silmarillion under his pillow.

:/

for me the movie helps add another dimension to the book(minus the added never happend scene's) but the imagery is awesome and since the movie has a solid foundation in the book the story line is impecable. I give the movie a and on a big screen tv with 7.1 surround sound you just cannot beat it. My buddy had the neighbors on the 3rd floor of his apartment complex complaining
