I just wondered if anyone has read this book and if so what you thought of it. Personally I learned more about sociology from this book than I did from my entire college intro to sociology class that I took. I really think this book has some amazing perspectives that people should at least take the time to consider. After I read it the first time I have never been able to look at society the same way again. I will leave this thread open for discussion of the novel if anyone is interested in that. Also I would say this is a must read for anyone in any station or walk of life. This book will at the very least give you something to think about next time congress passes a law that take away our privacy.

I've read it and loved it. Orwell is a stunning satirist.

Freedom is the right to say that two plus two equals four.

Well I haven't read it, but heard about it in time afcourse. perhaps you could summarize it for me, and take your time, I love that kind of stuff.

My first idea however how this book must be, is one of conspiracy. A big bad government which is bad to the bone in all intend and purposes. Not really realistic in my oppinion, not even if you wan't to give a vieuw of a imaginative society, people are just not like that. That kind of thinking, and books, just don't appeal to me. But I remind you I totally don't know what the story of 1984 really is.
