I took a little time this morning and scripted out an alignment shifting NPC. For a mere 5,000 gold, you can shift your alignment by 5 points towards Lawful, Chaotic, Good, or Evil. Note that with the right steps, from where ever you are, you can get to true neutral.

He's basically one guy, with 4 dialog options, and 4 scripts. He shifts the whole party, unfortunately, but if you get shifted out of your class by the Hand of Bane quest, you could leave party and talk to him to fix it.

Note: This will allow for some funky build combinations, such as Barbarian/Monk, or Paladin/Bard as well. It has been suggested that I make 4 separate NPC's to shift each step, as well, and that is easy enough to accomplish, if need be. The scripts, such as they are, are easy enough to place into dialogs, on ActionTaken, so no big deal. Also, the amount of shift, and cost are extremely easy to alter as well.

If this was put into Undermountain I would like to see this type of NPC at the end of a quest not someone sitting in the yawning portal tavern. reason being is that if some one is powerful enough to shift your alignment then they better be locked up or hidden away somewhere

I admire the ingenuity of the idea but my own gut feeling is that if PCs act out of character then they should suffer an alignment penalty. They should not be be able to correct it later with very little effort.

Saying that, the point about being able to make characters out of incompatible classes does appeal. Perhaps one single use during character creation on entering the Inn?

At this juncture I have no idea if it will even be considered, however, when you take a one point hit on quest, or from killing the gypsy on lvl 2, who still shows up from time to time, it's nice to know you can fix it. As I put forward in my initial post, the amount of shift, and cost are easily adaptable, and so could end up being 1,000,000 gold for 1 point of shift in any direction. Costly, yes, but in the long run, if accidentally get shifted out of being able to complete a build, it beats trashing a character for it.

One way to deal with this would perhaps be to make it so that you have this one person offering 4 different quests, dependent on which alignment shift you want to get - that way you would have to work for the privilege of shifting and it would then have a logical reason why you get the shift.

My suggestion was to have one of the Priests in each of the Temples be the alignment shifter. The Temples are already in Waterdeep and the Priests just stand around scratching themselves anyhow......why not insert the dialogue into the appropriate place. Ogma, for instance, could be neutral since he's rather absent-minded and really focused on knowledge rather than good deeds or world domination (I forget if this is his usual align).

Combining a few ideas here.

Each temple could offer a repeatable quest which can shift your alignement in any direction. you could also have to pay a donation to the church to get the quest???

That sounds more in keeping with things.. kind of like doing a penance for screwing up your alignment to begin with! LOL Cool ideas!

I have sent the package on to Z for use as he deems necessary, if at all.

This is an area that should be given priority IMO. It also helps out with much needed small quests in Waterdeep. The Waterdeep area is so well designed and lovely to look at that we need more excuses to wonder around!

Z please make this so
