I've yet to see a noticeable difference in game playing with player AI on or off so I was wondering if there was any advantage or disadvantage to using it (I personally don't but would it help if I did?).
Thanks. |

hello & welcome to ironworks
personally i never play with the AI on but then i usually play with small parties or solos - as i understand it works ok for the easier battles if you pick the 'scripts' well |

There is always the option of making your own AI scripts.

Assuming you've got a full party, scripts make easier battles fly by. Just give your melee-ers Fighter Aggressive, everyone else Fighter Ranged, and turn the AI off if the fight starts turning against you.

Using the NPC AI scripts you can make the game into more of a "real-time" battle, and as said above, makes the easy fights go by fast. Problem is, you sometimes run into tough fights and if you have the AI on, some of your party members might wind up getting themselves killed before you can get them back under control.
I tend to turn the AI off and pause the game *a lot* during the fights so that I can micromanage my party. You can do a lot more damage, more quickly, by concentrating firepower on one or two enemies at a time. Take out the mages & clerics first, then clean up the rest.

Whether the AI is turned on or not does more than just control your NPCs. If you do not want them to be controlled by scripts, just select none rather than default or any of the other ones. You should still have the party AI turned on, though, unless you want to miss text boxes like the one that pops up when you have completed all the Tales of the Sword Coast quests. I cannot remember if it extends to more than just that.

I always play with AI turned off. It suits me better. Also, welcome to IW.
