If I ever added special Hakpaks to EfU, you would have to download them from here, then install them to play.

Question is, do you think we would lose players if they had to download a hakpak? I think we would...

Now, when I release the Mod for download, I WILL be adding hakpaks, not many, but some. For new portraits and such.

I would still play, if it was kept to a semi-reasonable size. But I think you would lose the players that find us through gamespy.

Now that I've played on the server a bit, I wouldn't have a problem downloading a hakpak to keep playing as long as it wasn't too huge... It might deter people who are trying servers, though....

I'd still play if I could get things to work! But I do agree, you'd lose some players who just find the site by gamespy or word of mouth and don't want to mess with the finding and downloading of things.

Of course I'd keep playing.
But I can't really disagree with the people saying we'll lose outside players.

You could have an NPC in the tavern mention that a hak download would be needed in a certain amount of days for people that frequent the Module from outside. But that would not benefit people that would never get a chance to talk to that NPC until it was too late.

Do we really need a HakPak? We have HotU coming soon, and it will have more goodies with it. I would definately play, but I do not think you need it, because the game is so good already. A hak might mean more work for you in resolving issues.

Adding a hakpack will greatly decrease the amount of Gamespy 'browsers' that find their way to the Undermountain, and you'll also lose most of the players who have so far popped in only once or twice. Custom content like that is always a good way to add more flavour to a module for those players that are there already, but until we get an auto-download option for those hakpacks they are also the best way to ensure you'll have very few new players from that point on.

I figured as much. I won't do hakpaks. But Legolas, I agree 10000% that they need auto-updating. If QUAKE can freak'n have it in 97, why the hell not NWN?!? When I found out that it DIDN'T have auto updating, I was like; um, why tout how you can make custom stuff and not back it up with a user friendly autoupdater. That actually dropped my score of NWN one full point because of that one missing feature.

If Hordes doesn't add that, the NWN custom mod commmunity will die.

Ok, rant over. I know WHY they can't do it right now.. it's because of the 'one TOC file' and the listed erf files. The current engine would need a pretty big redo.

Still. Damn it, I want it in Hordes!

Hack Packs are fine by me now that the Umber croud has found us, they are here all the time now and hack packs may help keep them out.
I've played on more than 100 Mods and most suck, some just stink alot, some are quite juvenile and not worth going back to. Then there is EfU, this Mod is a class act and I have sent a couple E-Mails to Bioware to that effect and invited them try the mod for themselves.
So if you want my Vote! I say Hack away oh DM and lord of the Ironworks. Like the man said " If you hack it we will come", and maybe they won't. The Umber PC's that is.
