Is it possible to solo through BG1, i always hear of people doing it in BG2. If its possible, i was thinking of doing it with a thief.

Yes, it's possible. I've done it 3 times in BG1 now, although my first time was easy off. I had used a character that's been through the game 10+ times, so I had more heals and DUHM and cure poisons than Jaheira or Quayle could get through their spells . Soloed a mage two times then, once specialized, and once not specialized.
There's an ample amout of potions in the game to keep you from really needing a cleric. Only solo if you know the game pretty well, because BG1 is a little different to solo in than BG2. You can start off with as little as 4 HP, so you just need to be careful.

I would say that BG1 is easier to solo than BG2, I mean although you start off really crap there isnt as much compulsory hard fights in it as in bg2.

I would expect BG1 to be easier than BG2 for a solo player, it is a much simpler game, so smart tactics can get you though any situation. Sure starting out with next to no hit-points is tough, but once you through the first chapter you will quickly gain levels. I would have thought that a pure Thief is not as powerful as a Fighter/Thief, you need to consider a multi-class or dual-class in order to gain a wider range of skills. The other big problem is boredom - if your character is only good at one tactic, then it's a long plod to the end of TOTSC

Yes, I am soloing BG1 right now with a sorcerer. Heck, I don't even use my spells for anything except tougher stuff. I just use hit and run attacks (move in, throw a sling stone, run away). As long as they do not have bows, you can outrun many creatures and just pick away at them. I even took out a vampiric wolf at 4th level by just running away and casting magic missile until it dropped. The wide open spaces over much of the game makes it easier to solo.

Also because you are a sorceror . They're overpowered, although not too comparatively (is that a word? ) with a mage at low levels.

yeh its a word, yeh but remember sorcerors only get really overpowered when they hit level 14 or so, this sorceror will be much lower than that (although you could possibly get that high!)

Hey, my sorcerer just hit level 5. He's still only using level 2 spells, so he's still being challenged by everything he's running into. I ran out of spells (yes, at low levels it does happen, even to sorcerers ), then ran into a wolf. I decided I could just run away and shoot him with my sling. I ended up running around the perimeter of the map three times before my guy could kill the damn thing, just due to the high THACO (this was at level 2, so THACO was 20). However, once I have hit levels 9+, he will be quite powerful. However, after this, the next solo I'm going to do will be a thief, and that will be truly challenging.
