HotU end game question (major spoilers of course)

I learnt Mephistopheles's real name so I could finish the game, but could not do so by fighting him. How can you defeat him by a barbarian?

Didn't you have the option to fight him or can't you defeat him?

I had the option to fight him, just always dealt him 0 damage even when in rage.

Maybe you should have upgraded your weapon or do specific damage. IIRC I let Aribeth do most of the damage since the weapon she used was good. My bard didn't do much damage only 1 or 2 a hit and from an elemental ability from a weapon

Is he immune to physical damage totally or is it just that I don't hit enough? I tried exporting the character and going back to the drow smith, but the weapon is already too powerful. Is the belt which gives you loads of fire spells useful against him?

he has damage resistance of about 20 on all 3 physical damage types, + immunity to criticals and Sneak attacks, + at least 20 damage resistance on every elemental damage type but acid.

To increase your damage you'll need to upgrade your weapon of choice to +10 levels for the +10 damage, AND you'll need to have a fair amount of strength modifier damage (so your barbarian will need to be strong and quaff a bull's strength potion). Additionally, upgrade your weapon for acid damage.

My barbarian is lvl 28, has 25 strength and the +10 strength belt. Shouldn't he be able to hit him like that?

The acid did the work for me then. I had at least one acid weapon.

I'll just have to revert back to my unenchanted Gruum's Hand. Thanks for the tips everyone. The HotU campaign was IMO the best of the three official ones and it just annoyed me that I could only win by becoming the lord of hell. The character was chaotic evil, but he wanted to kill the previous proprietor before taking over.
