I started playing BG1 again, I forgot just how much fun it is, but here's the problem, I am a mac user, and while playing solo f/m/t I hit the exp cap fairly easily ><.
After fruitless hours of searching the web and a number of badly damaged files, thanks to resourcer and resedit, I am getting fairly annoyed. Can anyone tell me either where I can find a mac version of the cap remover or what to look for in the file itself to write my own? I know how to use resource editors but for some reason I can't figure out how to remove the cap, I'm not sure which file to look in even. I tried modifying various instances of the hex version of 89,000, but all I got for my trouble were stange crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

You need to look in one of the .bif files, which contain data files. The one you need to edit is xpcap.2da IIRC, just copy it out and put a modified version in your override folder. Do *not* try to edit the version in the .bif directly, unless you like spending hours re-building offsets.
Or simpler, get the NearInfinity program, it runs on any java VM and even Macs should have one of those. It'll let you access the .2da you need directly. The change to make should be pretty obvious once you have the file. There are other tools to do this, but most of them are windows native. But any remover should work with Mac BG1. Mac Infinity data-files are just the same as any other infinity data, so if oyu can open the .zip and put the .2da files in your override, your sorted.

You're my hero.
You have no idea how many hours I wasted trying to solve this problem. Near Infinity works great, sorta. If anyone else wants to try to do this, know that for some reason chitin.key lists file paths as "...\..." i.e. data\default.bif but the actual paths are data/default.bif. Stupid Unix. So you have to go into chitin.key, using resourcer, open the data fork, and change the path name to .../... That was a headache. But it WORKS! So, many thanks. Time to finish off the bandit leaders. Yay! |
