hey...i just got this game for christmas and i havent really begun playing it yet(still half way through bgII)..but i have fooled around with different characters
i was wondering what u guys would recomend...based on whether the character was fun to play, good, whatever when i play any type of rpg im usually a mage/wizard/some type of spell caster this time around im thinking of something different the only problem is usually when i go away from a mage type character i end up not liking it ex:when i first played bgII i tried an assassain and i found out he blew i was thinking a monk at first cuz i heard they tore it up in bgII but i tried him out and didnt like it..then i tried an elven ranger(i used the kit or whatever its called in nwn where he was proficient with sometype of bow device) so well call him my elven archer..i thought he was pretty good but i only played a little so basically im thinking my choices are either wizard, soceror, or "elven archer", or if anyone can really convince me that he's fun to play..the monk and btw which do u prefer wizard or soceror..in bgII i never used a soceror cuz i didnt understand how the spell casting was but i only read about it and never really tried it out also i wanted to know if it was worth it to play single player at least one time through cuz ive heard that multiplayer was the only thing good about this game...even tho the guy on ign said the single player was pretty good and i would also like to know how the game was played multiplayer ive never play bgII online so i never really knew how the pausing and stuff went also can u actually play the story through in multiplayer or can u only play the mods that people make is it kinda like diablo 2 where it saves ur quests and u can play all the way through it or is it like diablo 1(online) where quests dont really matter but u can still beat the game online and what role do others play since u only control one character in nwn as opposed to bgII where u can control several sorry im making a lot of references to bgII but im kinda in the middle of it and its got similar playing style to nwn thanks in advance also if theres another class that someone really recommends that i at least try and i havent mentioned it then please tell me [ 01-01-2003, 02:09 AM: Message edited by: Chamberlain ] |

I found the Spell casting classes difficult to play in NWN. Not that a player could not do very well with one, especially in a mult-player game. Myself, I only have a dial up so I do not play on-line.
I do recommend playing a monk. I have had great success with my monk. I found that with a little planning in stats and skill choice, the monk is the best fighter type in the game. I found I did not need to hire any NPC’s to complete the game. I cannot comment on the on-line questions, for I do not play on line. As far as the NPC’s go, they do have their own quests to complete. Other than that they are just there to back up your character. I do not care for the NPC’s and the way the computer controls them. As well, they take away from the amount of experience your character receives. They do level up, but I just don’t think they are worth the time. This is why I recommend spell casters only in multi-player. I found the game engine and playability so much better than BG, BGII, IWD, and IWDII. I do not think after playing NWN I will ever play these games again. So if I were you, I would finish BGII before playing NWN.

????????????
While NWN is a fun game, its more along the lines of Diablo than a "TRUE" RPG. The single player game is sorely lacking in story, and immersion. It is a fun game, I truely do like it, but it doesnt have the appeal that either the BG series or ES3:M or PS:T have, The game has no sense of scope, IMHO...

its linear, therein lies the problem, the plot i spose wasnt too bad, there were some good bits, but it didnt push new ground in any way whatsoever, and i would have liked some huge non-linear areas (like morrowind or baldurs gate)
