Spoilers...
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + After finishing up the Catacombs under Candlekeep (ch.5 or 6?) and then the subsequent cave/secret passage, I ran into a technical problem of sorts. After leaving the "cave area" and reaching the outside area of the Candlekeep walls, my game started to slow down to the point where the screen's frame rate was all but frozen. I would point/click to the area where I wanted my party to walk to and it would take them LITERALLY two minutes to get there! I restarted my computer thinking that maybe my RAM (128) had been exhausted from running other programs earlier in the day. When I loaded up a saved game from within the cave the frame rate and or game speed ran normally with no problems. However as soom as my party was outside the CK walls, the problem began again. This may or may not be important, but upon leaving this underground cave I cannot recall the game initiating a request for me to put in the possible corresponding CD. Note: I am running TotSC and have a total of six different discs, whenever I load up a new game it asks me for CD-6 aka the TotSC disc. So when I initially loaded up my saved game from within the 'cave/tunnel area' I had CD-6 in, but when I left the cave to go to the outside of the CK walls, the game DID NOT request of me to put in a different corresponding disc, say... CD-5 or CD-1. After about ten minutes (that's literally how much time it took) of walking around the walls, I left and was able to go to the city of BG and while there the game DID ask me for the corresponding disc and I had NO problems with game speed. But now I have another problem that maybe one of you nice folks could help with. After killing Mr. Prat and his gang within the cave area, I found and read the letter/note on his body, which said that Sarevok was heading back to BG, presumably the Iron Throne Tower, the Flaming Fist HQ, or Dunchal Palace. And upon leaving the cave area I met up with one of Sarevok's lackeys, forgot his name, but it starts with a "D", and naturally, I decided to kill him even though he said that he wanted to just walk away without any hard feelings. I obviously didn't get any reputation loss from the kill, but neither did I get much of any exp points from him (24 I think?), so I assume that he wasn't someone that I should/needed to kill. Did I screw up some important game sequence by killing this fella? Oh and also, was I supposed to meet someone outside the CK walls BEFORE going to BG? Because I didn't go snoopin around CK since my game was moving at such an oddly slow pace. BTW, when I went back to BG I went to the three aforementioned places and saw no one of any importance, was there supposed to be someone there to talk to? And two last things, I went back to CK and of course experienced the same damn problem, so I decided to put in the possible correct disc to see if it had an effect on the game speed and both CD-1 and 5 did nothing to fix the speed problem. Also I have NO MORE saved games from BEFORE the initial glitch outside of CK. I hope someone can help me out here, I would hate to see the 150 game-days that I have played, go down the drain! ![]()

Get the ToSC patch from Bioware. There is a resource problem with ToSC. The patch fixes it.

I downloaded the 'US/Canada TotSC' patch and had it installed. I then loaded a saved game up again and went back to Candlekeep but it was still 'uber-slow'. I then decided to restart my computer thinking that the patch wouldn't take effect until I did so, but it still didn't do anything. Note: when I head to Candlekeep and the 'loading area' comes up, the loading process takes extremely long to finish. I have NEVER had any problems in the past with playing this game or any other game for that matter, my system specs are not spectacular but do seem to be sufficent for most games out there today. Pentium 3, 450 mghz, 128 ram, GeForce-4 MX 420 AGP 64mb, and running Win98.

Go into your BG1 folder, find the cache and delete it.

I went into the Cache folder and opened up the Data folder within it and deleted the files there. When I restarted the game I had CD-6 in my drive yet the game asked me for CD-5. Kind of strange, though it probably had to do with the fact that it had no area data/cache to work from. Anyhue, the game speed at Candlekeep is STILL no different from before. I read about deleting the game's cache on the 'BioWare forum' last night, but shouldn't the overfilled cache effect the speed of the entire game, in every area? Oh and please, if anyone can reasure me that I didn't screw up the plot somehow that would be great! And could someone spoil me on what comes next in the game after the catacombs? And am I going to have to go back to Candlekeep later in the game? Or am I finished there? Because if so, then I might not have to worry about my primary problem in the first place! HHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

Let's just say that once you leave Candlekeep after escaping the underground catacombs, you don't need to go back. You're primary concern would be to go to Baldur's Gate, or if haven't done the TotSC quests yet, then go to Ulgoth's Beard.

Killing that guy makes no difference to the plot. He is just one of Sarevok's lackeys.

Well, as you don't have to go back to CK, you don't have to worry about it. Forget it and get back to playing.
You can kill ALL the guys who work for Sarevok without ruining the plot. You can let some of them go, but killing them won't change anything. There's also noone waiting outside the CK's walls so you can just proceed to BG. There should be someone waiting for you in all the 3 places you mentioned. However, you won't be able to reach one of them before you visit the Undercellars.

Well, I did go back into BG and looked for someone to talk to at the Iron Throne Tower, the Flaming Fist HQ, Dunchal Palace, and even the area with the Gate into the city.
I didn't see anyone to talk to. I did rest up at an Inn and had the 'dream sequence' where I see some raven and my reflection in a pool, or something like that. But I still didn't find anyone to talk to and my journal only said to go back to the IT tower. Where PRECISELY am I supposed to go now after the catacombs, go ahead you can spoil me. (Edit: You mean I have to go and meet someone in the undercellars before I can continue the plot through the three aforementioned places? If so, then I'm guessing that you are referring to either the cellar bellow the IT tower, or the 'undercellar of Ill-repute' which has all those frisky girls, right? Upon returning to BG City in Chapter 7, there are only three places that you'll NEED to go:
- Top floor of the Iron Throne - Undercellars (yes, with the frisky girls) - One more location, which will become obvious after doing the Undercellar. Your progression in the Main Plot seems normal, but I don't have a clue about your game lag.
