In my mind there is no doubt that BG1 is the best game ever created. It has so many areas for you to wonder through, enemies waylaying you, countless NPCs to join you, more side missions than all the other RPGs put together and an epic story!
I loved BG1!!

Lucky me! I still love it and there are still a lot of untouched areas left for me to explore for the very first time. I have not yet completed the game (I have just entered the city of Baldurs Gate).

I began to play BG1 for nealy a half year ago, but only have (too) little time to play the game.

It's crazy - I've had BG & ToSC for well over two years now and I've still not completed my first run-through. I need to get some dedication - I started, then started on Diablo II, then on BG2 when that was released, then decided to start on Icewind Dale after hearing so many good things about it. IWD is the only one I have truly done justice to, having completed it for the first time about a month ago.

This is what happens when you start dating someone and she wants to see you every night - I need some time to game!

BTW - how long do you reckon it's gonna take to complete the mammoth BG" (without the expansion pack)?

Took me four months first time (hoemwork), two months second (more work to do, but I knew what I was doing) and the third run through would have been about 2 weeks if I hadnt suffered catastrophic failure of the hard drive. That was all with the expansion pack.

I completely agree with your sentiment. I have played many RPGs and other games with considerably better graphics than Baldur's Gate & TotSC, but none have come close to both the realism and replayability that it brings. I actually feel as if I am there in the game as the main character. The number of variables and side quests and unique dialogue, really makes this game the classic that it is.
Beleive it or not but I started playing BG1 about 2 years ago, with spuratic intervals, and I still haven't fully completed it. Now granted I have started a handful of different campaigns, but the fact of the matter is, I honestly don't want to see the game come to an end!
I love this game!

You can just wonder through the vast areas of BG, like real adventurers. Other RPGs are just like, walk through here and kill a zillion characters... level up to 50. Well done.

BG1 was my first CRPG, and I still consider it one of the best. I enjoyed IWD and BG2 also.

Hmm - My first CRPG was the text based (do not laugh) 'The Hobbit' for Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Then I moved on to EOBI, EOBII and EOBIII for the PC.
