OK, this tread is similar to the Best Tips. It's aim is to oriente new players in the basic aspects of the games. Just like the Best Tips, we will have a few rules:
1- One post per trick 2- Absolutetly, positively no spoilers! (ex: the arrow tricks are spoilers, how to get certain traits, strategies for defeating monsters...) 3- All post will have a title on the first line. The title will be in caps. Post away what you think is usefull for the new players. ------------------ If I am because I think, then, if I talk without thinking, I'm not really talking! Am I? ENTERING DUNGEONS (THE CRYPT AND OTHERS)
When you get to a door that just won't open after you've entered the Crypt, look to the left, you will find a small lever that will open the Crypt for you. Also, all dungeons have similar levers on the left or right side of the entry chambers. [This message has been edited by Ryanamur (edited 09-03-2001).] |

GOING DOWN LADDERS
OK, goind down ladders is tricky: you have a couple ways of doing it. First, position yourself with your back to the ladder, look slightly down. With the keyboard, walk backwards. As soon as you start falling, walk forward. This will allow your character to grab the ladder. The second option is to approach the ladder by the side. Once again, look slightly down. Walk forward until you fall. When you start falling, you want to turn your character towards the ladder and start walking again. The third option (the easiest) is to approach the ladder from the front (like in Shimwiki's Hut). There, all you have to do is to walk towards the ladder looking slightly down. Then, it's the same. You start falling, keep walking, go down ladder. |

GUILD QUEST AND DUNGEON
Before you enter any dungeon, go check with your local guild master if he's got any quests for you. As you complete more quests, you'll gain recongnition within the guild and you'll have more training options available to you. Oups, I put a spoiler in. (number of quests per guild) [This message has been edited by Ryanamur (edited 09-03-2001).] |

The colored flags in your map window can be very handy in many places, especially if you have a poor sense of direction, like me. click on the color flag you want( it helps to use certain colors for certain kinds of things,i.e. red=danger, green=good thing, blue=neutral information/identification ), click the spot on the map you want to identify, then add a note in the window next to the map/flags! e.g.this elevator leads to *here*, this path goes..., etc.,etc. Click enter when you're done with your note, and you can close the map when you're finished. When you open the map back up, click on the flag(s) in your map to read the message you created for it( this can be tricky ). Happy adventuring!

GUILD TRAINING
Never forget to train in your guilds at a level up. Your characters will advance much faster with a guild than they will without one. You can train a level higher in a skill or get a new trait or increase stats. Whenever you level up, make sure to do this. And whenever you get a new role, join any other guilds that role can join which will allow you to advance much more quickly. Guild training is something often looked over by newbies but it is something that will make the game a whole lot easier and more fun (I'll never forget the times when trying to decide whether to get the Forging Trait or Second Weapon!) -Jafin |
