Finished at last !! ( CRPG No. 71 completed )

Cet has been sent to wherever nasty evil pharaoh types get sent to, and I get to give my comments on the game.

Started: 07 June
Finished: 26 August.

Graphics: Workmanlike - I especially liked the skeletons, and of course, sunsets.
Sound: Above average- I love the sound of female vampires moaning in pain !!
Plot: Reasonably standard fantasy good vs evil stuff, complete with magic sword, but not too ‘cheesy’. Enjoyable.

Things I liked:
1. Character generation - the most options and skills I’ve ever seen.
2. Custom blessing and enchanting items.
3. Rats, roaches, and other ambient animals.
4. The day/night cycle. It was fun prowling around the wilderness at night.

Things I didn’t like:
1. Management of guild quests - the endless complaints from guildmasters about quests not completed.
2. Too easy to enhance characters by guildhopping, endless gold, and worst of all, the ‘reset adventure’ option.
2. Monsters don’t inflict enough damage. Very few of them pose any threat greater than “minor nuisance”. It would have been nice to have the game auto-adjust difficulty according to how powerful the characters are, and the weaponry they have.
3. Being able to change the monster spawn rate. This is meant to be a CRPG, not a first person shoot em up !!
4. Getting Valkyrie and Zenmaster classes far too late in the game. IMHO, Valkyrie should have been linked to freeing De Soto - fits in nicely with the ‘saving souls’ image. Zenmaster should be granted when you wake up Anephus.

No replays for me … time to back up the saves, free up some drive space, and move on the next world to save. Baldurs Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal, here I come !! ( or at least until Wizardry 8 is released ... )

P.S. My special thanks to all those in the forum who answered my posts ...

P.P.S. To find out what happened to my party after Cet was killed, check out the 'Giggling so hard ...' thread …

Congrats, Pangur Ban!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that you won't be replaying but don't be a stranger to the board because of that!

If you like the character generation and items blessing/enchanting, you should try to get your hand on Elder Scroll: Arena or Daggerfall if your O/S can handle DOS games. They are both ahead of their time in that departement. But their graphics are now dated... very dated. They both have more of those along with custom magic spells

If you can't handle DOS, you'll probably love the next Elder Scroll: Morrowind... it suppose to be out in Q4 of this year.

Cheers and have fun in BG2

I agree - Daggerfall was good - Sad to say, I have never been able to find a copy of Arena despite hunting at swapmeets and 2nd hand computer game shops.

Dated graphics don't bother me much. In fact the only CRPG I have never been able to finish is Might and Magic I - the hardest CRPG of them all, presented in stunning 4 colour graphics, complete with PC speaker "beeps" !!

I'm going to hang on to Windows 98 SE as long as I can - Give up DOS? No thanks !!

Wyvern - I'll still be around for a long time yet - probably prowling around the BG2 boards ..

Congratulations on destroying Cet and saving Gael Serran, Pangur Ban!

I liked the same things about W&W as you did - well, except day/night changing... Really hated to walk around at night 'Tis not safe there...
And, yes, it's a pity that one has to replay the game to taste all the possibilities of Zenmaster/Valkyrie...

Welcome to Amn - there are a lot of quests to do, a lot of people to help, a lot of fun to have! Hope you'll enjoy BG2:SoA-TOB very much! (Frankly speaking, I'm crazed about this game )
