Ok, Got to the first level, the one with all the opening and closing doors. Found the control panel and set all switches to "Open". All fine and well. Problem: If I leave to go to town, and re enter the dungon, the doors are are closed and I can't get back to the control panel. I've played this before, about 2 years ago, and I know the lower levels allow quicker access to the surface. Did the latest patch do something or must I clear out that entire level and find the other stairway within a short time period?

Welcome to the board good Sir Frank.

The Level in Durlags with all the doors and switches is a bit of a pain and from what I've heard, going back to the surface and then going through a second time is likely to mess things up. I always try to do it in one clean run, from top to bottom, to avoid problems like this, so I am only repeating what other players have posted. If you've done it before you will be familiar with the wardstones and the switches, so keep trying different combinations. There are of course, two ways through this level, so try both the clockwise and anti-clockwise routes.

Good luck

its impossible, or was in my game, once you open the throne room door if you then leave the dungeon your unable to get back in i tried everything including putting items back as they were to trigger things but it didnt work, so go back to an old saved game or start crying theres only one way out of it and thats through the trapfilled torture place off the throne room, you cant get out any other way

I've never had a problem with this. If the throne room is closed, then manipulating the statues in the Southwest room or smacking the dummies should open it. You don't have to get into the room with the switches, you can stand in the throne room and work the switches through the wall.

getting into the throne room you can do everytime, but the next door you cant, least i couldnt , once i got locked out i was stuffed and had to reload a really old saved game was annoying because i had so much cool stuff in my backpack i didnt want to leave anything so once i went out to town to sell it all and came back i got locked out and tried for half an hour to figure every possible combination to get back in, got into a room with a trap that got a dragon breathing fire on you, but the door below to that was locked too, its the teleport room you need to get into through the torture chamber and that one was inaccessible

Hadn't tried to operate the switches from the throne room. Thanks for the tip.

I have never had a problem leaving and then returning...granted you have to go through the teleports again and the throne room but if you just follow your original course then all should be fine all the way to Durlag's Mom.
