Hello,

I am at the point in the game when I have killed the nasty assassins sent to get me and should have collected a nice shedful of experience points. All my characters seem to have hit a ceiling of 89,000 points above which they cannot move however. Is this a bug or something? Or is this God status - if so its rather low!

Well, you'll need a wee bit more in order to get godstatus, but you're on your way. Without ToTSC most character will cap around lvl 7-8 IIRC.

Oh, and :

BG-1 has a limit of 89,000. Add Tales of the Sword Coast and you can get up to 161,000. Baldurs Gate 2 will allow you to get to 2,900,000. Throne of Bahl lets you get up to 8,000,000!! Now THATS "GOD" status.

If you need a cap remover this one should do it (works on BG1 with or without TotSC)

BG, BG2, IWD, and NWN (and their respective expansions) have an experience cap. For most characters in BG, that means clvl 6-7 with 89K experience. You can "pop" that experience cap, like others on this thread advocate, but why?

For one thing, if your experience gets above the TotSC limit (178K I think), if you try to import your character into BG2, you'll lose whatever experience you gained above the cap.

Also, the game is designed with that cap in mind, IMO. I found that some parties I dragged through the game hit the cap in Baldur's Gate, some didn't hit the cap until the return to Baldur's Gate (like your experience with the assassins), and some didn't hit the cap at all. I think this system was designed for dual-classed and multi-classed characters to get some decent levels. In short, BG can be played without taking off the cap. All depends on how you play.

Ex: A fighter/thief gets as a maximum 44.5K exp points for its fighter part and likewise 44.5K exp points for its thief part.

As far as I know, dual/multi class characters also get a 1/6th part of the total gained XP (if you have 6 characters in your party), so I do not think it would be any different with dual/multi classed characters compared to single class characters.

except that the way each level requires a bigger jump in exp to the next.

so for that 89,000 exp cap you could get a single class fighter to lvl 7 or a theif to level 8.
Or you could get a multi-class fighter/theif to lvls 6/7 respectively. so by the end you sacrificed 1 level of each to get the skills of both classes in 1 character.
