SPECIAL SPORTS EDITION OF THE GAEL SERRAN EXAMINER:
CRAZED WIZARD GOES HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH MANTRAP ON BET

Gentle readers, the Gael Serran Examiner stops at nothing to follow up a story! Posted earlier on the forum:

Quote:
Don't even THINK about whacking mantraps til you do the serpent temple
(beware brown square) and acquire lovely stuff like Meteor(Stone4) and
Magama Bomb (Sun6). I whacked the mantraps with these beauts from a heroic
distance, round the corner, east side of castle. Mentally Yours,
Si.
P.S I'll give you £100 if you can take them with fists.
Well, times are hard in the Gael Serran, and there are those out there who are willing to risk life and limb to obtain a few ducats, albeit through gambling. One such person who rose to the occasion is the sorceress Shiva Lovecraft.

Shiva unfortunately had a cursed Serpent's Staff which she couldn't unequip, but, nevertheless, set out to prove that one could take Mantraps on in head-to-head sudden death combat! And in the middle of the night, no less!

According to Skywalker, her trainer:

"She [Shiva] killed 2 before the staff broke and the killed the last 2 that were behind her with a meteorstorm spell. She also used several healing potions."

Well, Si, it appears that you're off the hook, by a technicality. Since Shiva did use an armed weapon (the staff), and resorted to magic in the end, her battle, valiant as it was, is technically disqualified from the competition. But what a battle it was! Below is an award-winning shot of the final moments of the epic conflict, in a sight most adventurers only see as their last ones on this earth. Below is a partial blow-by-blow account of this section of the battle:

So there you have it, folks! Shiva is reported to be in fair to good condition, and is recuperating in Ishad N'ha. She has sworn, now that she is freed of the cursed stave, to rechallenge the Amazoni Mantraps. We must but admire such courage and foolhardiness, to bravely go forth to death and glory!

The challenge and bet still stands. Will any other crazed adventurers take up the Bet of Death? Who will survive, and who will fall? Please send all reports of additional participants to the Offices of the Gael Serran Examiner at sazerac1963@yahoo.com

Stay tuned, sports fans, for updates to the Gael Serran Examiner. Remember: Minds that need examining want to KNOW!

If your poison resistance is high enough you won't be affected. All you must do is to spend many points to willpower. It also depends on the race you chose. Lizzords e.g. get a 50% bonus to poison resistance (Snakeskin). These Mantraps can now breathe as much as they want...

Just as a clarification (for the contest's sake): are there any restrictions on using "Merlin's Shield"?

There is also a small wand (I forget its name) found in the serpent temple that imparts 100% poison resistance. I have tried it on the fungus that seems to attack using the same spell and recieved no damage. Unfortunatly every time I see a Lily or Mantrap I quickly Nuke em w/a storm spell before I think to try the wand.
