It's such a shame because it's so addictive to play, but Wizards & Warriors is the most bug-ridden unstable rush-job I've ever seen. It is so buggy that I'm amazed it runs at all. If I didn't save every half hour, I'd be forced to start over constantly because of bugs. It's one bug fix after another...
![]() My current woe concerns the Dragon Hunter's arrow. I must deliver it to him but he won't accept it. Somehow, the item lost its flag and is now useless. ![]() Before that, I had to backtrack 2 days because the Busido Dojo got broken somehow. Instead of selling Ninja and Samuri items, it was selling the same stuff as the Amory. ![]() I think this program is another case of a product rushed to the store shelves too soon before being properly debugged. I realize that a program makes no money till it gets on the shelves, but releasing it full of bugs just poisons all future sales. I know I won't consider buying a sequel to W&W. It's a shame too, because the story is compelling and the graphics are superb. |

I know it sucks, but try to download the patch. It helps some things.

What's your hardware setup and OS?
Are you running the game in software mode? The patch helps but give us the details of your machine and we may be able to solve your problem. Wyv |

My computer is a Pentium Athalon 800mHz, ASUS Motherboard, and ATI Video.
I run in Win98, 2nd edition. I did download and install the Patch. I don't have too much trouble with the 3d graphics, although the game does tend to crash catastrophically once every 3 days on the average. I just save regularly using the difficult load-save system. (Wouldn't it make sense to be able to save when you're safe in town, and be able to load when you've just made a big mistake in the woods?) My main difficulties tend to be in the game mechanics breakdowns. ![]() What do I do when the Busido Dojo stops selling Ninja equipement. I don't dare sell anything anymore unless it's stackable. That means I drop 90% of the treasure because I'm afraid to sell armor and weapons and overload the stores. Another problem I'm having is that I'm not getting credit for delivering the letter to the mayor of Ishad N'ha. And is there a fix for the Dragon arrow that the Archer will not accept? It *IS* a fantastic game, I just wish I didn't have to backtrack and replay areas I already finished because something broke the first time around. My first question: Are you running DirectX 8.0a? That's been credited with many "buggy" problems.
On the Dragon Hunter arrow quest: Did you check if his inventory is full? Sometimes the NPC's won't accept items if their inventories are full. Try buying (or pickpocketing) something from him and maybe that will solve the problem; free up a slot in his inventory. I have heard of problems with the Bushi Dojo's inventory getting confused with the Armory's....I'll see if I can find a thread on that from the past and get a solution for you. I'm sorry you're having such trouble! ![]() -Sazerac Okay, update....I just found the old article. Apparently, there was a big problem with the Wizard's Guild inventory becoming corrupted with the Armory as well. Unfortunately, I could find no solution to it; apparently, it's a "random bug" that crops up from time to time. Backing up the save game and reinstalling the game doesn't seem to help, according to the article...apparently the corruption occurs in the savegame files rather than in Deep6.exe *sigh* It's a rare bug, but it does occur. I agree, just be very careful as to what you sell and keep. If it's any consolation, the best items in the game are "found" rather than bought...so except for the Ninja and Assassin Garb, you'll find much better armor later. Including Ninja and Assassin armor..but that'll probably be past Brimloch Roon (Centaurs are great for carrying those). Sorry I couldn't have been more help..I hope the problem straightens itself out. -Sazerac [This message has been edited by Sazerac (edited 03-14-2001).] |

How much Memory do you have?
Can you check it to see if any of it might be bad? (just another thought) |

I have Direct X 8.0, but not 8.0a. I have 128 Meg of Ram.
I think the RAM is okay. I can run "American McGee Alice" without trouble, (now THAT'S a 3D stretching game). I appreciate your efforts. I tried to search the archives but didn't have any luck. I really do want to finish this game. |

Oops. That DirectX 8.0 may be the culprit. It's a pretty shoddy piece of work, all the way around. One of our other posters here (Todwest)just figured out that was the problem with his game crashing over and over.
Unfortunately, nothing seems to work except to reformat and reinstall Windows with a lower version of DirectX, since 8.0 will not let you remove it or uninstall it... *groan* -Sazerac P.S. Just pushed up Todwest's post on "DirectX 7 and desktop crashes"; it may relate to your problem as well... "S" [This message has been edited by Sazerac (edited 03-14-2001).] |

It's been a whole week, and no problems whatsoever. No bugs encountered, no problems cropped up, the only bug that showed up was the Jathil quest, where the priest would just keep exp and levels.
I have DirectX 8.0, gonna upgrade to 8.0a now. And I didn't patch the game. |
