I`ve just bought this game and wondered if you people could give me some advice on what characters to start out with?
Cheers

Yes, thanks for that. But what percentage would you recommend for fighters, wizards etc?

I like to start with two warriors, one rogue, one priest and two wizards.

Other choices:

Warrior Warrior Warrior Rogue Priest Wizard
Warrior Rogue Priest Wizard Wizard Wizard

Hey and Happy Fighting,

I also used Warrior Warrior Warrior Thief Priest Mage

Now, Paladin Barbarian Samuri Assasin Monk Warlock.....plan ahead to what characters you want and which you can do with out. Magic is critical......samuri work well as you can upgrade a warrior quite quickly and you get Sun spell ability with this class.

IMO, the Rogue is unnecessary: just take one of your warriors and quickly ascend him/her to Barbarian. Then have them start learning Traps & Locks and Pickpocket. All you need is to get T&L up to Level 5 and you can pop pretty much any lock east of Brimloch Roon.

For a 6 character party, I'd recommend: 3 Warriors, Priest, 2 Wizards.

Make one of the warriors a Paladin soon on, one of them a Ranger, and one of them a Barbarian. Keep the Priest and Wizards as is until about Level 14 (which will be around when you hit Shurugeon Castle) before ascending them to something else; this guarantees that they'll get the spells they really need (like those great Storm spells). It's all up to you where you want to go from there.

Thanks a lot everybody. That`s a great help. With BG2 I don`t think it was quite as important as you only had one character to choose.
You`ve given me a rough idea how to go.
Cheers
