Still having problems in elevator

Wyv I have tried following your instructions from seastop.com for the elevator puzzle. I get up to the room with the lever hit the lever nothing happens I do not have the key from
the Serpent Protector. I think he is avoiding me, "my pure power must be scaring him off"

The walkthrough I used (posted long ago here on this forum) describes it as (having gone through most of the elevators):

"A short fall later, you stand before the Serpent Master" so look for a place where you can drop down.
It also says not to attack him yet..answer his questions "Yes" (you have seen Xydusa) and "No" (you have never tasted her nectar) and he will give you another key.
Go ahead and kill him after you get the key if you can LOL (save your game first!) he tried to follow me and took enough crush damage to be dead by the time I got back down from the left side elevator! (there is a switch on the wall that activates the elevators there where he is).
His key also unlocks the room to get the tome of fire out of a chest you saw before the elevator hassles.

The instructions at seastop are copied from the guide book. Bad choice, because it's not correct. I'm trying to get the owner change it.
After pulling the lever go to the NE room and take the N elevator.

Thanks once again Moni & Carg you guys are "GODS" you are the best. Your information on the information from the manual not being correct was most helpful, I'm on my way to see about a room, its been a long night, although I don't think I will be that happy with there accomodations so I probably won't stay long after viewing what there chest has to offer. Thanks once again.
