Why can't you dual class a mage to a fighter? I mean, you can have a fighter mage, and a thief mage, and a cleric mage. Why can't you have a mage fighter, or a mage theif or a mage cleric? That doesn't make any sense. Once a mage chooses his class, he can never quite being a mage? He can't decide that he wants to change to a fighter? Fighters can be mages, mages can't be fighters. that's retarded.

Perhaps black Isle thought that particular combination was pointless? Many people wouldn't want to dual like that because:

1. Horrid HP
2. Fighters dualed to mage may be better in the long/short run (especially BG2).

D*Ranged has a good point.

Just think off this: Dual class a mage to a fighter and you'll have a fighter with 10 HP + you'll have spent you stat points on int. and maybe wis. so the fighter would have like 10 i str. and con. A pretty weak fighter if you ask me + a mage with just low level spells .

depends on your starting stats rolls, am i right in thinking because you get imoen regardless and almost straight away that you may as well set charisma to lowest possible because she'll do all the talking anyway?

You could set charisma very low but why? It is not always a good idea.

You don't set your str. at 3 'cos you are a mage or int. at 3 'cos you are a barbarian. It doesn't make sence to set stats that low. By the way, make a search. We have discussed this before

If you actually CANNOT Dual a Mage to Fighter in BG1 with sufficient stat rolls in STR and INT, it will come as a great surprise to me. I agree that a Mage->Fighter would be an idiotic class, powergaming-wise, but there's no reason for it to be illegal.

no i say charisma because then you can boost other stats and charisma has no other purpose than a bit of extra cash from shopkeepers and for talking to people, if imoen does all the talking then chr doesnt matter, strength on the other hand is useful for a mage, can carry more stuff and if in combat can deal some damage, all the other stats are useful , just charisma isnt if you already have a charismatic character in imoen
