Well I finished the game. Can you use your characters and start over without losing your equipment and stats.

Yeah just go to any town and than go to setup and select reset adventures. It'll restart you at the beginning of the game with everything you left off with except your guild status and any special items.

reset/revert samething or is the revert option different?

reset and revert are different. You want reset adventures it only works from an inn.
