OK, so I played BG2 too much and like few aspects of it too much..
So I created an usual, simple regen ring for BG1 too. I hate to carry around crapload of potions and waste spells on minor wounds - minor as few only, though for the char it's a "nice" wound due to small HP in BG1. Anyways, the thing is that it's not working always. Sometimes the regen effect will just not go "off". At times it works if I take the ring off and put back on, sometimes not even then. At times it takes few area changes and taking off-putting on the ring for it to start working again, then next thing - it regens you up, and when you get wounded again, it AGAIN doesn't regen. Even clicking on-off wont help. Basically it's frikkin' random and not reliable. Regen rate is such that it doesn't help really in the combat (why would I want to spoil that by trivializing it), but it does help when the combat is over - I can just move on and the char will regen HP without me having to quaff potions. It has made the exploring faster and overall game tempo faster too. So, anyone has made regen items and seen such effect? Has any advice as to why it might be so?

well just sounds like BG1 was not designed for regen items, far as i know there are none in the game, so it wont work too well, regen itself was probably put in to be used but never made it to the final stages of coding, so might be enough to use but will be bugridden

Kind of a side question but how high does your constitution have to be to regenerate naturally? Is it 19 or 20?

Regarding CON, don't remember but probably 20 to get the "self regen".
And yes, there are no regen items in BG1, but there is regen potion (don't remember if spell too), so theoretically it should work. And it does work too, simply seems that it doesn't always get "turned on" ![]() Oh well, it's not crucial to have it, simply it has saved me great deal of time

i could do with one definately, i know what you mean about the stupid amounts to heal, i wish resting would heal 4 or so hps a time that way i wouldnt have to worry about wasting all my heals, still i got about 7 minor heals all told and 2 serious wounds so can normally waste a few

Can't say that I've ever tried to make one in BG, but the Potion of Regeneration is a limited item i.e. it has a two turn duration (I think). As no other item has the regeneration facility, it is quite possible that full implementation wasn't added to the game. (Try using 'Mind Blank' in IWD and the game will crash.)
Other then that, it's just a matter of checking all of the parameters for the item, and how it is equipped on a character. Does it need the 'Display Special Effect Icon', for the item? It might require that to sit on the character's portrait.

All the parameters are OK, I am, how should I say this.. Quite at home in making items for Infinity engine games
![]() I guess that the real cause is indeed the fact, that there is no "real" regen feature in BG1, and the ones which are, are limited to some duration. So it works for that duration and after that, it stops.

Well, the surefire way to ensure proper Regeneration is to set the wearer's CON to 20 (or higher) while equipped, but that would mess with max. hitpoints as well. Why don't you just take the Potion of Regeneration and turn it into a Ring?

Perversely, that isn't as easy as it seems. BG is far more tolerant than IWD when it comes to item creation/changing, but if the effect in question hasn't been developed fully, there is no guarantee that it will ever have the desired effect no matter how you reproduce it.
I can't remember what creatures have natural regeneration (aside from Con 20+) in the game. Trying to recreate their abilities may not be permissable within the programme rules. As far as they extend. [ 10-24-2002, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: Lord Brass ]

Werewolves and wolfweres regen. Quite a lot in fact. Especialy the "greater" versions. Try seeing how they do it - its probably one of those effects with a number instead of a label, so it woudnt be obvious in the list.
