Does the gold situation suck in this game or what! I know how to cheat on gold, but I wanted to try to play the game as it was written. NO cheating. I decided to use only 1 character & even now, there is hardly enough gold to cover even basic guild memberships, role ascensions, a very low level training. Forget about enchanting/blessing anything. Has anyone else tried playing without cheating on gold? If so, how far did you get? Did you give up? I don't see how a 6 member party could properly develop without cheating on gold. Does the treasure/gold increase beyond Shurejen (Spelling) Ruins? That was as far as I got before the Dancing With Death Restart with a Whiskahs Wizard. What do you think? |

I have used no gold cheats and I suffered being broke forever until I guess around the Stout Mines...raiding the King's Treasury through the one room Raskillion had access to really helped, as little as it was.
I also discovered that contrary to popular belief, exploring new areas at night was beneficial as there were more frequent encounters and the enemies you could get items from after offing them had better stuff than what you would see in the daylight hours...the lil Rat Packs & Thieves in particular. In Brimloch Roon at this point, beginning the Temple Shrine quest with 115,000 + GP and all members of the party in training through each guild that they are members of. Not bad, I think, for not cheating! : ) Moni (of course had we cheated early we could have been much badder mo-fo's than we are no but s'okay!) |

I'm playing for the third time now, and still have not used a single way to increase my gold apart from finding it, selling things and doing quests. I admit I spend a fair amount of time running up and down with stuff to sell, esp. with my single character now. Then I use identify and forge skill and merchant trait to increase my benefits. That way I can do the basics, and sometimes a bit more. I think that is balanced: you'd end up with super characters if you could do unlimited enchants, and have all skills at level 12 when you've reached character level 12. You don't need training skills you already have: you can increase them at level up. Training is extra, and there is enough money to do it once a while.
A six character party gains levels much slower, so they can train less often. Actually I think I like this: even far into the adventure you still have use for gold, and even in Brimloch Roon you have to choose where to spend your money on. |

Aquiring gold in a RPG has always seems rather like an artform to me. Not counting the cheats of course, but working out the most efficient ways to use your inventory limits and skills to bring in those gold pieces! Sometimes I will devote play time just to increasing our wealth if we have some particularly good training we need. Other times I will just be getting on with the game, but I always try to manage my inventory so that I have room for items that will pay off!
