The death gaze is a gaze attack, so Protection from Petrification or Potion of Mirror Eyes guards against it. Characters who are affected get a cobra icon on their portrait. Dispel Magic (or Arrows of Dispelling) will remove the death effect.

It's been awhile since I played BG1. Let's see...

First off, you need to kill as many of those monks (?) as possible so that the demon doesn't take over their bodies when it dies.

I find spreading the party around & using fireball, cloudkill etc helps.

Use as many buff spells as you can.

Summon as many monsters as you can.

You have to kill all monks before attacking the deamon. One good thing is Otilukes resilent sphere. cast it on the demon, and he cannot do anything but watch you killing the monks.

Chris

PS there are many threads about this topic in the forum with good tactics.

If you have Viconia here is a trick with boots of speed after the prists have been taken out.

The demon likes to use Vampiric Touch alot. Viconia has 50% magic resistance and if you drink a potion she will be at 100% which makes her immune to the touch. Keep the others fireing from a distance with missels. Have Viconia keep running away from him though, as she probaly will not take to many direct hits.

I never thought of using Otilukes resilent sphere that was another good idea.

In the inn across from that building you can buy a ring of invisibility. Equip it on someone otherthan your thief and cloak/cast invisibility on them both. run through and make sure that you cant see any one when you take the ring off. give it to your thief cloak him and run back. do the same until all your party members are in the room(also make sure you equipped plenty of summons) and cast 2-3 summons, cloak your thief and send him out exploring. as soon as you see someone, pause tell the summons to attack and tell your thief to move your thief out of sight. You dont really need your entire party in the room, but if you do get spotted it helps if you can cast all your protective spells on one place and stops your wizards from getting slaugtered by a Big Demon.

He is only in ToTSC and you have to fight him after Durlags Tower.
